So have been today and her advice to me was self isolate 😳 I said I work etc etc she said the only advice I can give you is self isolate come to your appointments other than that self isolate.
I'm 14 weeks today..... Anyone else been given this advice?

Yep I just got told this morning to self isolate for 14 days. But that's because I phoned and asked for advice, as I've had high temperature since last night (38 degrees and not dropping even after paracetamol).

I'm 38 weeks pregnant so that will take me pretty much to my due date. And probably means I won't be allowed the type of birth I planned 😥

EstebanTheMagnificent · 18/03/2020 12:26

There’s a lot of confusion between self-isolation and social distancing. Self isolation is necessary if you or someone in your household is symptomatic. Social distancing (eg working from home if possible) is strongly advised for at-risk groups, including pregnant women.

Cazzy198 · 18/03/2020 12:44

I saw my midwife today and she told me ghe advice is for social distancing, not yet self isolation so doing the odd food shop is fine.

I'm 30+5 and I'm hoping to work from home but havent yet discussed with my employer.

See this I did discus with both my consultant and midwife and bot said stay at home.... It would be helpful if they were all off the same page....

They’re advising social distancing but to me it pretty much means the same thing as self isolating 🤷🏻‍♀️. You’re supposed to avoid close contact with people as much as possible so avoid restaurants, cafes, shops unless vital i.e food shop, leisure centres etc (tbf I think this is the advice for everyone atm anyway). Most people work in conditions which require close contact with people so I’m not entirely sure how you’re supposed to completely socially distance yourself.

Splitsunrise · 18/03/2020 15:18

Well if you’re consultant led care then it will be different from others won’t it?

Lazydaisydaydream · 18/03/2020 20:04

@Splitsunrise surely all pregnant women have a consultant appointment at 14-16 weeks? It's part of the NHS guidelines I believe.

Sunshine1235 · 18/03/2020 20:19

@Lazydaisydaydream care in the UK is all midwife led unless you have underlying health issues or complications in pregnancy

OP I’m 12 weeks and pretty much self isolating now. I’m a SAHM anyway though but my DH is doing the food shopping and other than an occasional walk in a quiet place we are all staying at home for the foreseeable future

EstebanTheMagnificent · 18/03/2020 20:20

Not at all, @lazydaisydream. Uncomplicated pregnancies are entirely midwife-led.

wheresmymojo · 18/03/2020 20:32

The advice to all pregnant women is to be in contact with others outside of those you already live with as little as possible for the foreseeable future.

Lazydaisydaydream · 18/03/2020 21:41

I’m in the UK and all pregnant women in my area see a consultant. I assume it depends on the NHS trust then.

Savingshoes · 18/03/2020 21:54

This is from yesterday:

"Pregnant women are being urged to attend antenatal appointments as normal after the government said they should be shielded from coronavirus.

The Royal College of Midwives said the appointments were "essential to ensure the wellbeing of pregnant women and their babies".

The government says limited evidence suggests there are no coronavirus-related complications in pregnancy."

Weighing up the two evils, having the symptoms of corona sounds horrendous when pregnant.

Having symptoms of corona, whilst caring for a newborn on sleep deprivation and worrying if your newborn is going to get it too sounds absolutely terrifying.

Sunshine1235 · 19/03/2020 07:06

They both sounds terrifying to me, we just don’t know at this point whether having Corona in your first or second trimester has an impact on the baby. And there is very little data on the impact for those in their third trimester.

New scientist has this article which articulates where we are at well - www.newscientist.com/article/2237352-coronavirus-what-we-know-so-far-about-risks-to-pregnancy-and-babies/amp/

Lazydaisydaydream · 19/03/2020 10:13

@Sunshine1235 thank you for linking that article! Very interesting.

I work in McDonald’s, lucky for me I am on a weeks annual leave right now but unsure as what to do in the next coming weeks, I am 25 weeks and I am confused about the best action to take, I rang the midwifes and the doctors and they said they can not tell me what to do, we just need to be following guidelines (which aren’t very clear) what is everyone else doing if they are working close to the public
