I work in a large building that holds events working in a cafe so I’m around a lot of people.

I was meant to go to work today but I haven’t as I’ve heard to not socialise/ be around people due to pregnancy.

My work won’t pay me but my job is so risky? What am I meant to do? I’m sitting here twiddling my thumbs and my work have said it’s my choice not to come in so they can’t do much!

My partner works in a factory and all pregnant women were sent home yesterday, seems my company aren’t bothered! I’m the only pregnant one there.

I work in a shop, at the tills so plenty of contact with people. I can't afford to not work weeks on end and it will affect my maternity pay if I don't work. I haven't even asked HR what to do. I turned up for my shift yesterday and no one battered an eye lid.
From my understanding, the government have not said we (old, pregnant, vulnerable, etc) have to self isolate. Yet. If that changes, I will reevaluate but in the meantime, I'm just being cautious and being extra vigilant with hand washing.

In the same boat here. Work in retail so customer facing all day. My bosses are waiting on instructions on what to do but unless I'm going to get paid for social distancing then it's work as normal for me. My husband is being told to work from home as of next week.

The only thing I can think of is to try and get signed off work by a GP- you’ll be able to get paid that way I think. I know a lady who has done this because her employer wasn’t being cooperative about her leaving so she got signed off for a while.

@THNG5 it’s all so confusing! I work on a till too, with our jobs we can’t work from home! My work don’t seem bothered at all, so I’m feeling silly for staying in :(

@erised Are you still working then? I’ve decided I’ll have this week off for now and see if we get anymore info! They seem to be sending a lot of office workers home but we’ve now been told we are at a high risk and no info what so ever!

Xx

@Catlover10 yes I did think about ringing my midwife, I’m just so confused! I don’t want to put myself at risk, I’m also asthmatic. I just worry about work! Xx

@Sunflower2019 it definitely makes no sense. I've got other children as well so until they close the nursery/preschool, I'm out of the house anyway doing drop offs and pick ups. I think the problem employers are having is that as it's not mandatory (yet), there's no reason they should pay us. I imagine if it becomes mandatory, they'll have to come up with some solution!

WTFdidwedo · 18/03/2020 09:24

In my restaurant we've told one of our pregnant workers to stay home. She's two weeks off maternity leave though so she's just going early now I think.

Sunflower2019 · 18/03/2020 09:31

@THNG5 I have a daughter at school too, she walks there and back though admittedly but I don’t know what I’m meant to be doing! It’s not mandatory but as things get increasingly worse, they’ve said to be extra careful not socialise but our jobs are customer based being around the general public all day! Nightmare! I really hope they give us some better info over the weekend!

@WTFdidwedo yes that makes sense! I’m only 14/15 weeks pregnant so I’m quite a way off that! Xx
