Can a GP do the tests of the 16 week appointment?

I live a bit out of London and my chosen hospital is in central London. I have a 16 weeks appointment tomorrow. OH now tells me I’d be mad to go (I live with two high risk people) .
Can I miss this one do you know; can my GP test urine for protein etc, and whatever else happens at 16 weeks? Thank-you x

Can you speak to your midwife and ask them?

You'll be lucky to get a GP appointment if it's not urgent I'm afraid. Maybe speak to your Midwife today.

Yeah I agree, I doubt you'll get a GP appt. I think you should go personally - missing antenatal care appts puts your baby as risk as much as potential covid exposure does 😕

You should call your midwife trust and they might be able to see you at the local midwife centre so you don’t have to travel to central london (close to your home address, go). I couldn’t see a midwife at my usual gp midwife centre so I called and they found another one, close by that I could go to. At 16w they normally do the urine test, blood pressure and listen to baby’s heart with a Doppler. I would def call them.

You will need to be referred to a different MW team, and that'll probably take a bit of time, but you should be able to do it and have the check reasonably on time. You might strike it lucky, and find a way to arrange antenatal care outside your chosen delivery hospital's own arrangements (both onsite and in the community) but I wouidn't count on that.

Thus outbreak isn't going away for several months at least.

I would look at transferring to a hospital you are happy (or at least less concerned) about reaching. You can always change back later if things have changed by then

I think it depends on the trust..I called my local hospital where I normally go, maternity unit and they just gave me a number to call and ask if I can see midwife somewhere else/local. Trusts normally have diff teams at different locations, gp’s and health centres, maybe I was just lucky but they just took my postcode and made appointment over the phone with the local one which is 5min drive from my house..good luck.

I am a mw and at 16 weeks we normally give you your blood test results from the very first appointment and discuss your scan results. Check your urine for protein and do your blood pressure. But some trusts do things in slightly different order.

Thank-you so much ladies, the GP has told me to self refer to a more local hospital, and a mum friend I met on the school run today told me homerton was good. So I self referred online, got a message saying to wait 10 days for a reply. Just want things smooth again, my anxiety is through the roof over everything
