Brown discharge - first trimester

Hello, has anyone had this and did things turn out ok? I'm 10 weeks pregnant and noticed a brown discharge when I went to the loo yesterday and today. In a panic I have booked a scan for tomorrow at my fertility clinic (as I had IUI) just to be on the safe side. I spoke to a friend who said this can be quite normal but I just wanted to check out on here if you have experienced this? Thank you in advance

Hey, you’ll find mixed stories on here but you’ve done absolutely the right thing getting your scan arranged ASAP.

This happened to me twice and went for a scan and everything was fine. I said to the midwife “is it normal then?” And she said “it can be common but we never say normal as any bleeding should always be investigated. These are also the NHS guidelines.

Hope everything goes well for you, try to relax, I know that’s easier said than done.

Hi, I agree with PP - definitely right to get checked out. I bled (in different ways) in both my pregnancies and both times was terrified I would lose them. Now I have two enormous noisy children Smile Really hope all is well for you too Thanks

@halesie @Ruby8719 Thank you both so much for your comments. I feel a little more reassured. My appointment is this afternoon so I'll update on here with the outcome. Thank you x

I had something similar at around 8/9 weeks and got told it was old blood as it was brown my son is now a healthy 9 year old. But i remember the fear when i wiped and saw the brown blood. Hopefully all is well with you try and remain calm although i know its difficult. Flowers x

@TheBrokenFuse Yes I was so worried. I panicked when I saw it and thought I was miscarrying (I miscarried last year). Hopefully this will just be fine and I'll have a positive outcome like you have. Thank you for commenting. These reassuring replies really help x

Hi @TheBrokenFuse you have done the right thing booking in for a scan this did happen to me at 11 weeks (3 previous mmc) I was very worried - PFB is now 2 and currently munching on cheese sitting in my lap Grin. As a pp has said any bleeding should be checked the midwife told me that sometimes brown discharge is old blood but to always check. Good luck for this afternoon Thanks

I had this about 2 weeks ago...I'm now 12 weeks and baby is doing fine 🙂 we have a Doppler which I will use until I can feel the baby for myself. Try not to worry if you can x

Hi All,
I just wanted to post an update.
Thank you all for your replies yesterday.
I went for my scan and unfortunately it wasn't good news. They could no longer see a heartbeat. We're absolutely devastated. It looks like the pregnancy ended 2 weeks ago but I've still had my usual pregnancy symptoms so didn't know. I need to go to the hospital Sunday for a pre op and back in on Monday for the day for assistance is helping the pregnancy pass. I'm just heartbroken. We've had so much fertility treatment but sadly this is another loss. x
