I don’t know what to think at all. I’m 9+4 and getting very stressed out, I was reassuring myself because pregnant women hasn’t been mentioned before up until this point but now we have. But schools remain open.
Anyone in the same situation care to share what they think is best?

I'm 32 weeks. In my view, there's no point limiting social contact if you're then expected to go and work in an environment where there are large groups of kids.
I'm taking it that we need to avoid school as well. I only have 3 weeks to go until maternity though and am quite happy to work from home putting resources together etc.

ClassicallyConditioned · 16/03/2020 17:58

Risks don't seem greater for us, from what I've read.

Pears913 · 16/03/2020 18:00

I’ve emailed my deputy head asking for guidance...

Pears913 · 16/03/2020 18:01

I think he wasn’t saying this only applied to women in the third trimester, but that they only had information pertaining to women in the third trimester as it is a new virus

user1493400455 · 16/03/2020 18:11

I’m 35 weeks pregnant and due to go on maternity at the end of next week. I’ve decided to leave as of now, I just don’t want to risk anything. I think the guidance is for all pregnant women, not those just in their 3rd trimester

baggies · 16/03/2020 18:11

I understood it that from the weekend you will need to socially isolate just as the over 70's will so that means not working at school. It's obvious that schools will be closing shortly, but you have to put yourselves first. The only information the scientists have at the moment pertains to women in the third trimester giving birth. They are widening the 'vulnerable group ' to include 1st and 2nd trimester women as a precaution as there is no data yet.

FrancesFlute · 16/03/2020 18:11

Sorry if i misunderstood then!

Rhiandrath · 16/03/2020 18:13

I'm 22 weeks pregnant and my partner is a teacher, so although I can self-isolate, he just comes home every day bringing whatever the kids have with him. At a bit of a loss.

booklover164 · 16/03/2020 18:14

I'm wondering the same. Only 6+4 so very early days and only a couple of people at my work know.

Flora20 · 16/03/2020 18:14

It was very clear that pregnant women are now in the same category as old people and those with existing conditions. I had my health and safety meeting with HR literally this morning when I was confidently saying there's no greater risk etc, but I'm now writing an email to say I'm going to have to be off. I'm thinking for various reasons to go in tomorrow, to take some books etc, but not after that.

And no, he said clearly that all the research that has been done only applies to women who caught the virus in their third tri - that's why they're now saying all pregnant women should be careful - in his words, any infection is not a good thing in pregnancy.

FrancesFlute · 16/03/2020 18:15

I've just checked with my medic DH and yes it is all pregnant women, sorry Blush I must have misheard.

DisneyGirl2387 · 16/03/2020 18:17

It is very early days for me too 5+5. I'm a reception teacher and my husband teaches secondary. I've not told anyone yet! It is all really worrying!

MaryCh17 · 16/03/2020 18:18

5+3 here, large secondary and not told anyone either 🙈

LazyDogFox · 16/03/2020 18:33

I’m 24 weeks with twins and a primary school teacher. I’ve no idea what to do but thinking I will be going in tomorrow, hopefully just for a chat with the head and then come home.

DressingGown87 · 16/03/2020 18:36

I’m only 8+5 but in the high risk category already. So I’ve just told work I won’t be in until I’ve spoken to my consultant. It’s just meant I’ve had to tell my mum and employer, which i didn’t want to do until 12 weeks.

Tink2007 · 16/03/2020 18:39

Interested in this post as I’m a TA and 17 weeks so not sure where I now stand.

bingandflop · 16/03/2020 18:40

Not a teacher but work in a school. Really worried and confused now. Have 2 primary aged children as well, how can I self isolate for 12 weeks when I need to get them to school etc? Work and friends dont know I'm pregnant yet, this is not how I wants to tell them!

MiniMinion · 16/03/2020 18:41

What the point of self isolating if you've got kids? I've got a 5yo who isn't going to accept me locking myself in a bedroom for 12 weeks away from her. So even if I stay home, she's bringing all her school germs home.

Oh and DP is nursing on a corona ward - and we can't live separately in their same house.

ser91 · 16/03/2020 18:41

@rhiandrath I'm 36 weeks and on mat leave from teaching. Partner a primary school teacher. We've asked about him isolating and creating resources/ planning from home.

I can't stand the thought of him coming home with something and then missing the birth/ being isolated from me and baby.

I'm a mess! 🙈🙈

chantico · 16/03/2020 18:42

The press conference said that pregnant women would fall into the same category as the over 70s and those with underlying conditions.

That means 12 weeks (minimum) self isolation, exact start time tbc, but over the next weekend.

Use the next few days to tidy up your work 'to do' list, and work out, if you will be required to provide online/email support for learning, how you will do that

Spacecudet · 16/03/2020 18:45

I got pneumonia and became very ill in early pregnancy years ago, causing me to miscarry. The advice is to self isolate and you should definitely follow that advice.

Veesbaby · 16/03/2020 18:46

I work in retail. 27 weeks. Think I need to start emailing.

booklover164 · 16/03/2020 18:54

I've just had a phone all from work telling me not to go in for the foreseeable future...

lorisparkle · 16/03/2020 18:56

I think that people have highlighted a real difficulty with the current plan. What about the families where one member is in the high risk group. Is that person meant to be shut in a room and self isolate but what about those high risk people who need support with personal care (the disabled, sick, etc). How about those in the high risk group who are single parents. It is. It as easy in the real world.
