Hi everyone,

I am currently 7 and a half weeks pregnant and haven't told my work that I'm pregnant yet - however I'm starting to get a little worried with the Covid-19.

Would anyone recommend telling my bosses and self isolating just to be safe? We have 3 people who have had to be told to leave the office and self isolate - My husband is freaking out if I leave the house, even though from what I’ve read there isn’t confirmation of increase risk to get it (I know that it hasn't been around long enough to know for sure)

I just need some advice! Don't know what to do.

No one here can tell you what to do, you need to make that decision for yourself. The minimal research that's been able to be carried out so far, suggests that pregnant women are no more likely to catch it nor are outcomes any worse. If you start to self isolate now, you will need to do so for months.

I'm 11 weeks tomorrow and told my work today because of the virus. I'm concerned about the amount of close face to face contact I have with the public but was pretty much told to get on with it until government advice changes. So I guess it depends on what you do for work and how sympathetic your employer is!

Whilst there might be no evidence that this virus adversely affects unborn babies, there can't possibly be any reliable data on this yet so I'm taking the stance I'd prefer not to catch it and won't take unnecessary risks that increase that likelihood.

I just want to work from home to be safe but I just don't know how long this is going to last!

I’ve told my employer today and I’m just over 10 weeks. As I can work from home they’ve been very understand and said that’s fine. I will however go in on days nobody else is in. I’m lucky I can do that but if you can too I would ask. It was also my husband that was really concerned about it!

This has just come out

Covid-19 and quarantine
pollypocketrocket · 16/03/2020 17:36

@esmerelda1988 can you send the link to that x

erised · 16/03/2020 17:40

This is estimated to last until spring 2021 so you will be self isolated for a while...

I'm 22 weeks and work retail. Advice so far is the same as other people. Self isolate if you have the symptoms.

1990shopefulftm · 16/03/2020 17:42

I'm 7 weeks and haven't told work yet, being asthmatic scares me more than being pregnant does with the virus and there are people self-isolating from my work.

I can't work from home yet anyway and they're working on getting most people set up to work from home so I'm sticking it out for now unless there's concrete evidence that comes up that says it's too dangerous.

Willow4987 · 16/03/2020 17:42

PM has just said they want pregnant women to isolate for 12 weeks in line with vulnerable people

esmerelda1988 · 16/03/2020 17:46

@pollypocketrocket it was on the live updates of the PMs speech- www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2020/mar/16/boris-johnson-press-conference-coronavirus-live-firms-could-soon-be-allowed-to-run-reduced-services-because-of-coronavirus-shapps-suggests-politics-live

Quite a way down now but I'm sure it'll be on any news story everywhere in the next few hours

Pregnant women to self isolate for 12 weeks.
I mean if it's that much of a danger than I'd be happy to do that for my baby!

Piper1879 · 16/03/2020 18:17

There's no way my boss would allow it , I work in an opticians I can't work from home 😫 I want to protect my baby but what's gonna happen?

Connie222 · 16/03/2020 18:18

I’m 16 weeks.

Not going to lie, I’m shitting it. If I didn’t have older children it wouldn’t be so bad.

Dd 6 can stay off school.

Ds 17 and college? It’s going to fuck up this year for him but I guess a small part to play. Dh can work from home. I’m not working at the mo.
But Ds has to get a packed coach to a college if 3000 students each day.

Scruffyoak · 17/03/2020 07:21

How can we not go to work? Will employers understand?

stives20 · 17/03/2020 13:51

I'm only 6 weeks and an NHS worker (anaesthetist) expected to work in ITU with COVID patients. I've been forced to tell my team so so early and feeling desperately guilty as the workforce is already depleted and about to be challenged more than ever. Awaiting to hear if I'm expected to work. Also concerns re pay/ subsequent mat pay if I am unable to.

KrissyMB · 17/03/2020 14:17

@stives20 let me know what their thoughts are. I am only early in pregnancy too and not really wanting to tell work yet. I work in public sector so can't work from home etc.

RG1121 · 17/03/2020 14:27

I just told my bosses at 7 +6 and they have said I can work from home for the next 12 weeks (begrudgingly) but it has to be done! Better to be safe than sorry - baby’s health and well-being is more important than any job in the world!

OP posts:
KrissyMB · 17/03/2020 14:52

I am only 5 weeks so really don't want to jinx things and tell anyone yet but also scared incase I don't take precautions!

N12345625 · 17/03/2020 15:33

I am 6 weeks and haven't told my employer. I work in a school and am so worried about it spreading really fast.

KrissyMB · 18/03/2020 10:34

So phoned my HR and other department at work for advice before going to my line manager! They both advised speak to my GP. Called my GP. They have advised to socially isolate for 12 weeks as of this weekend...they said those that are in the 1st or 3rd trimester are the ones especially counted at risk. Wish me luck trying to tell my bosses that I'm not coming to work for 3 months......

Avearage · 18/03/2020 10:40

I've just spoken with my consultant who says I need to isolate for 12 weeks Confused

pollypocketrocket · 18/03/2020 10:53

@KrissyMB wonder why they said first and third trimester ?

Avearage · 18/03/2020 11:05

@KrissyMB good luck I've semi dropped it to my work who are like ok we have given you 14 days 🤷‍♀️

KrissyMB · 20/03/2020 15:27

@Avearage that isnt great of them!! I am still debating telling my boss!

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 20/03/2020 15:32

I'm 22 weeks and instructed by consultant to self isolate for 12 weeks. She said she'd give me a 12 week sick note if need be.
