Since I have been 20 weeks pregnant I feel short of breath like normally I am fine but when I walk up the stairs I get breathless or if I walk for a bit it's the same when I resting I feel okay but feel the need to keep taking deep breaths which I can take fully for now. Is that normal? Anyone else had that ? Since this coronavirus thing just getting scared but I have no cough or high temp or dont feel low or anything like that so yeah but still having anxiety over this-_-

I bet you need iron tablets. Low iron means oxygen not being circulated as it should leading to feeling of shortness of breath. Like you just can't get enough air in. You will likely feel dizzy/light headed.

Get iron tablets, give it a few days and see if you get better

Hi I had real shortness of breath from about 20 weeks up to when my baby dropped almost two weeks ago (am 40+5). Everyone I talked to, inc midwives, said it was because everything was squashed and it was quite normal. If you're worried double check with your midwife but I got to a point where I had to catch my breath between getting in to bed and then lying down!

I had severe shortness of breath from before 20 weeks, it is really crazy what pregnancy does to your body! I wouldn't worry about it, firstly, take it easier - I didn't take it easier because I kept thinking I was just unfit. However everything inside your body is moving and adjusting quite rapidly, and your lungs don't have as much room. It's completely normal, according to my midwife, my experience and others who I know have been pregnant recently.

My advice is to take it as a sign that your body is working hard, so you need to slow down to help it out.

I have had shortness of breath since week 16 or so, mine comes on even if i talk too much. I find mine is worse if I have eaten a big meal as there is no space. Have seen doc twice and they checked me over, no signs of bloodclots (swelling legs etc). It can be a normal pregnancy side effect but maybe get a check if you are seeking peace of mind xx

Lowniron definitely causes this but so does what all the previous posters say too.
I'm 21 weeks and not too bad with the shortness of breath but anytime I walk up a slight hill (walking my dogs) I definitely struggle and notice it.

I'd try some iron as someone else said. When I was anaemic I was terribly short of breath.

Low iron*

I've had shortness of breath from around 8 weeks!! Usually running up stairs etc I'm fine but it's been like that from almost the start!!

livvvv · 16/03/2020 10:43

Go to your midwife get her to just do you a blood test to check your iron levels/ blood pressure I'm 22 weeks pregnant and for the last few weeks I've been really dizzy all the time exhausted shortness of breath and feel like I'm going pass out all the time and my iron came back really low so it's worth just getting checked

eandz13 · 16/03/2020 10:49

Exactly the same started with me around 12 weeks. I could barely even talk and felt like I needed more air, couldn't even yawn properly as it felt like it wasn't 'going all the way back'. I had loads of tests, bloods, oxygen levels (which were fine) they had me walk around strapped up to monitors etc. Ball all wrong with me, they just put it down to hormones and weird pregnancy symptoms. I still have it now just more manageable. Still get checked as the first thing they checked me for was anaemia.

Same here - shortness of breath even when i talk. And when I give talks in front of an audience it looks like I'm hyperventilating.

Horrible but normal.

pooopypants · 16/03/2020 11:41

I was like this with both DC, it was just everything getting squashed up and making my lungs smaller

Mention it to your midwife though, call them if you have their number.

I was out of breath for the entirety of my last pregnancy and there was nothing wrong with me. You should speak to your midwife though of course, because it could be something that can be easily remedied like PPs have suggested, or more importantly you're at increased risk of pulmonary embolism whilst pregnant.
