Dilated but no contractions

I had my second sweep yesterday and midwife said baby's head is really low and I'm 1-2cms with a soft cervix (so no change since my first sweep 3 days ago).

All of that sounds really promising, but things just don't seem to be progressing into anything else.

I've had a few bouts of cramps here and there but nothing regular. I suppose I'm asking - where the bloody hell are my contractions/when will labour start?!

Can baby get this far and then not know what to do next? Induction is booked for Wednesday and I'd like to avoid that if I can. I've tried all the old wives tales to get things going but still nothing.

Does anyone have any experience of being dilated for a while without contractions and then going into spontaneous labour, or does it usually end with an induction?

I was 2-3cm when I had my sweep and she could stretch to 4cm. Cervix soft, but still a bit posterior, I went into spontaneous labour five days later :) fingers crossed for you

Best advice is get walking and keep active. Id slept 2 hours before i went in with DD and i was hanging out my arse but knew if i slept, things would stop, so i kept walking, bouncing and moving.

I think you can be a little dilated without labour being imminent. I know I was! Hold tight as long as you & baby are healthy.

I was convinced to go for induction on my due date for this reason - private OB. It ended up being a difficult induction with lots of interventions. Looking back I just wasn't ready, and the OB was just managing his patient load... BTW - not in UK and 14 years ago!
