Antenatal Appointments & Coronavirus

I have two appointments next week at the hospital - I was fully prepared to go until this morning when I heard there had been four cases of the virus at this hospital including a newborn baby.

I don’t know what to do? I don’t want to risk catching it and possibly passing it on to my baby when I’m only 17 weeks as well as possibly bringing anything back to my family.

What is everyone else doing in terms of hospital appointments?

I'm attending my appointments as it's best to check baby is doing well. Just make sure you're washing your hands and using the sanitizer that's placed all around the hospital.

Just remember before all of this, how many viruses and illnesses were present in the hospital then and we still attended because it just wasn't blasted on every news outlet?

I think my worry is the newborn baby that is at the hospital I will have to attend and the lack of knowledge surrounding if the virus was passed across in utero or during labour.

It’s highly unlikely any flu type virus would be passed on in the womb. Its obviously a different virus but it’s still similar to flu & baby cannot catch regular flu in the womb. It’s very likely if mum has Coronavirus that baby would get it very quickly upon birth.

I’d personally call your midwife & express your concerns if you are that worried. You need your midwife appointments, they are checking your health & wellbeing. And what would you plan to do about your 20 week scan which is the most important scan of all to rule out serious & life threatening conditions?

I’m due to give birth any day in a hospital with corona cases.. safe to say I’ll still be going in to give birth! There’s nothing I can do about it, babies gotta come out!

I have called the midwife and she told me there had been no cases at the hospital at all when I called this morning. When challenged with the news of the newborn she stuttered and then couldn’t give me any type of reassurance.

This is my third baby so I know the appointments are important but I also would like to be well informed.

I am currently 32 weeks pregnant and I have my midwife check up appointment at the doctors on Monday. I have just received a text from the nhs saying it will now be telephone appointment due to coronavirus. I don't understand how they can measure blood pressure, baby's growth etc over the telephone. Has anyone else received this?

I’m quite anxious about Coronavirus but I will still be going to my appointments. Most of the time you stay quite far from people and you shouldn’t be with people for too longer time so hopefully not enough contact to catch something. To be honest I think I’m more likely to catch something at work in my school or on the train.

@rachel59pink as far as I know my midwife appointment next week is at the hospital -but they did say they may be in touch nearer the time to say it’s telephone. Totally agree with you tho-want the urine sample , BP etc so how can they do this over the phone!?
