So I've been trying to stay relatively calm about Corona as I am super anxious person anyway and so far I've been doing ok, sleeping staying calm and not to much panic . Currently 23 weeks pregnant .

This morning I saw that a baby has been the youngest confirmed case.

This really worries me

Hi -I agree this is worrying -but I’m hopeful that if mother and baby are both fine in a few days when they recover then it is less worrying.

Nelbert19 · 14/03/2020 08:18

Plus you please give a link to the story? Thanks!

pollypocketrocket · 14/03/2020 08:22

It's certainly worrying how they are now questioning wether the baby got it in the womb or through birth. Iv never been convinced they knew an unborn baby couldn't get it.

Mummyspider27 · 14/03/2020 08:32

I guess to try and put a different angle on it, lots of babies are born with infections, needing hospital stay and antibiotics etc. So far all reports say under 20’s get very little symptoms. Be interesting to hear about the baby in a few days time, and hopefully they are completely recovered after very little if any effects. A man recently on TV tested positive and was in quarantine however said he never once felt ill or had any symptoms. It’s so hard not to worry but over 60,000 people have recovered from it, a stat we often aren’t told x

Isthistrueor · 14/03/2020 08:38

Children are generally unaffected by it, it’s really not that harmful unless you’re elderly with underlying health conditions.

Lucked · 14/03/2020 08:41

We know the baby is infected but we don’t know if they have any symptoms. We already knew this, that children and babies are not immune it is just they don’t seem to get very sick.

Sounds like the mum isn’t very well though and I hope she comes through this quickly.

I think it’s to be expected pregnant woman & babies will catch this. So I don’t think any additional need to panic just because of this news story. Thankfully children seem to be getting mild symptoms. But that’s again not to say some children won’t become more poorly, some will. It’s the same with any illness. Most kids sail through chicken pox but a few become extremely ill with it! It will be interesting to see if they can link how baby caught it but I’d imagine it was upon birth, regular flu etc is not passed on in the womb!

I’m heavily pregnant & at home with an other half & toddler with bad coughs & mild fevers. There are a million worries in my mind, not least the idea my OH may not be allowed to attend the birth if he’s meant to self isolate.. but there is nothing I can do. It’s completely out of my control. All I can do is staying calm & wash my hands! If I go into labour, I’ll inform the hospital about the situation & take it from there..

It’s a worrying time for everyone & shaping up to be a tough year all in all but we are pregnant, having newborns & just have to get on with life. Can’t change anything, just follow advice & make some temporary adjustments to life such as less social contact etc!

Watching this thread as I'm 24 weeks and a little concerned too (though my mind is taken off it when running after DC1!).

I'm partly worried about me and bump catching the virus, but perhaps slightly more worried there may not be enough NHS staff around when I got into labour this summer.

Here's advice released by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists:

For the public - www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/guidelines/coronavirus-pregnancy/covid-19-virus-infection-and-pregnancy/

For healthcare professionals - www.rcog.org.uk/globalassets/documents/guidelines/coronavirus-covid-19-infection-in-pregnancy-v2-20-03-13.pdf

Though admittedly both published on yesterday, so before the story of this woman was made public.

emilyjh40 · 14/03/2020 21:40

Oopsdaisy, I'm also worried what things will be like nearer the time I'm due... I have to have a ceasarian (due to previous fibroid surgery) around end of July, and just hope that the hospitals haven't gone crazy by then.
On the other hand, like others have said, there's nothing we can do by worrying.
I'm just back and forth between worrying and not worrying Confused

jdy123 · 14/03/2020 22:07

It's hard not to worry. My anxiety is so bad atm with thinking "what if".
I'm worried as I was under impression no pregnant cases have been bad but if she's got pneumonia this isn't the case.
Can't imagine being away from my baby when it's just been born. Just hope we get some news that they are both okay and hopefully that it can't be contracted in the womb

EasterEggz · 15/03/2020 00:07

Couldn't agree more, Im 23 weeks too and feel the same as you. Trying to stay calm but this newborn news story is awful- the mum and baby being separated for at least 14 days. Sad

jdy123 · 15/03/2020 09:19

Just seen article that baby is recovering and they think baby caught outside the womb from coughs or sneezes. Positive news.

mrsbumblebees · 15/03/2020 09:23

jdy123 do you have a link? Been desperate for some more news on this. Really hope Mum and baby are ok and they know a bit more about what happened.

oopsdaisy · 15/03/2020 10:32

Thanks @jdy123 that's reassuring news. X

BadCatDirtyCat · 15/03/2020 10:41

That's very good to hear Smile. I hope the mum is OK.
