Nesting frustration amidst crazed panic buyers

Ok so got to rant here a bit. I’m 8 months pregnant and having an urge to make sure we have everything in ready for baby - I guess typical nesting. Nothing extreme but just trying to ensure we don’t get caught out in the midst of the first couple of weeks with a newborn.

However all these basic essentials including baby wipes and basic household cleaning and food items are low stock or sold out in so many places.

It js driving me crazy that this response to coronavirus is not only leaving truly vulnerable people such as elderly and sick people at risk - but also now posing major barriers just trying to do basic preparations for baby.

Anyone else finding this all extremely frustrating??

@Caspianberg. Yes I actually have a couple of reusables that I trialled with my last baby. I would need to get some bamboo liners in etc though. I also have some cloths (although probably need more). However even washing capsules and powder are being hoarded which means even reusable options are limited if we cannot access these.

@ SarahD19 - as a fyi, we have gone down the full reusable route for baby due next month anyway. It seems liners do not need to be used until 6 months/ on solids so no need to panic for the near future.

If anyone gets a few waterproof nappy covers, you can then use any muslins, small towels etc in an emergency also.

@Caspianberg it is helpful to know. However I think also unique to baby. My first routinely soiled on average 10 times a day plus wet nappies. Some people would only get a 1 or 2 poops or even go a few days.

I suspect if this baby is like the last, demand will be very high and the turnover great - and I would likely need the higher end level of absorbency. Sorry if tmi but having had this situation last time round, this was one of the things that put me off being fully reusable as much as I tried 🙈🙈🙈

@ SarahD19 - i think its more due to newborn poop being basically liquid, so no liners needed for solid stage, rather than amount produced. As just breastfed/formula poop can go straight in machine and rinsed out, compared to say a 2 year old poop! lovely I know.

@Caspianberg whilst there’s elements of truth in that, from first hand experience I would say it is sheer quantity and needing absorbency. If your baby does so many poops a day and it goes through nappies and clothes, liquid or not, you require a higher level of protection than with just urine alone. And the sheer quantity of washing required is simply phenomenal. Every baby is different and for some reusables work better than others. I’m much more realistic this time around I think compared with previously.
