Hi, I was wondering if anyone could advise. I had my first official scan today and baby was jerking their head back and making full body jerks! Is this normal! At a previous private scan he/she was super wriggly. This is my first pregnancy and super worried this is a bad sign! Thanks, super anxious Liz

What did the sonographer say when you asked if it was normal?

Lynda07 · 12/03/2020 16:40

It is apparently quite normal - the sonographer would have told you if there were any concerns.

I found this which is about a 14 week scan but that's not much difference to 13 weeks:

I hope you are reassured. Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luckFlowers.

I think pretty normal. I remember my baby bouncing and flipping around all over the place at 12 week scan.

MellowMelly · 12/03/2020 17:06

I think that’s normal too. They kind of do weird jerky movements when they’re born too like random arm flings and sudden head jerks.
I was at my daughters 12 week scan and her little nugget was trampolining around in there. We all had quite a giggle about it. That nugget is two now and is still a little fidget bum Grin

That’s how babies move! They are very jerky.. & they continue to super jerky, I’m currently sat with my 39 week baby sticking limbs & a head out into my sides in very random & erratic jerks!

Delbelleber · 12/03/2020 17:56

They don't have control over their movements which is why they are jerky but they gain control as they develop

LizSte85 · 12/03/2020 18:32

Thank you all so much for replying to my post, you have all put me a bit at ease. The sonographer didn't say anything so I'm taking that as a positive! Again, thank you xx

I’m not able to attach the video clip we got from this private scan but In it my boy looks like the freaking exorcist!

If you think about it they’re being poked and prodded by the ultrasound wand! What do you do instinctively do if someone pokes you when you’re not expecting it? You jump/jerk!

Try not worry (easier tasks than done I know) x

Thank you all so much for continued advice! MrsRose2018 your comment re exorcist made me chuckle! Xx

At mine I the sonographer asked me a question just as she started with the wand and I was so nervous that I gave the most bizarre answer and DP face in response made the 4 of us in the room howl with laughter. She said the laughter made baby sooo wriggly she struggled to get a clear picture! Was so amazing seeing their tiny arms moving around. It's so normal and even when babies are born they have funny jerky movements too x
