Flu jab

I will be 17 weeks tomorrow and I still haven't had my flu jab and I know it's completely your own choice as to whether you do or don't but I was just wondering what your opinions are on having it done.
As flu season is nearly over is it still worthwhile having it?
How many of you have/haven't had it?
If you haven't had it what were your reasons?
Am I being selfish if I don't have it?
Thank you ladies.

Your choice of course but I'm not aware of any downsides (other than a sore arm, and I didn't even get that this year). Plus with the whole Corona virus thing, if you get flu it would probably be quite stressful as you'd wouldn't know at first which it was.

Don't forget you need the whooping cough vaccine as well (it's from 20 weeks in my area).

Yes, you would be selfish not to have it. And no, it’s not too late to get it.

LH1987 · 11/03/2020 14:37

Hi OP, I’ve had flu once in my life and it was in March. I felt horrendous, I cannot imagine feeling that way when I am pregnant. I would advise getting it, I didn’t feel any downsides from getting it.

I don’t think it fair to say you are selfish if you don’t get it though!

xxxemzyxxx · 11/03/2020 15:26

My midwife did say it’s of course my choice but also said you really don’t want to have flu while pregnant as apparently it is absolutely horrific. She said one of her ladies she’s seen recently didn’t ever have flu so she didn’t get the jab, but then weeks later she had flu and said she really wished she had got it done because it was just horrible to have while pregnant. And as you’re immune system is weaker while pregnant it takes longer to fight off.

I had my flu jab a few days ago. I get one every year because of my asthma anyway but held off this year as everyone I knew who had it got quite sick afterwards. I personally have had no side effects from it a few days on though.

I had mine a couple of weeks ago and was told it would give my baby protection from it for the first couple of months after they are born.
That was enough to convince me to get it.

lustforlife · 11/03/2020 17:53

I would, I was offered it at my 20 week scan along with the whooping cough vaccine

Ginfilledcats · 11/03/2020 18:03

Absolutely get it, why would you not?
Protects you and baby from flu. People die from real flu (not really bad colds that people call flu). I had it (work for NHS) at 5 weeks pregnant and been fine so far. But I get the flu jab every year and haven't had it!

The post about the Cornavirus thing is a bit pointless as it won,t protet against that. Unless you have genuine concearnas to not do so. (Such as negative reactions in the past.) Then there is no reason not to I did when pregnant.

Hodge85 · 11/03/2020 18:27

I had it at 6 weeks, no side effects or anything. 26 weeks pregnant now x

maria2bela · 11/03/2020 18:34

I don't get vaccinated while pregnant, I didn't with my first and have had no issues at all.

DesLynamsMoustache · 11/03/2020 18:38

You've had no issues because you were fortunate enough not to get flu Hmm

If it's offered, take it, OP.

Camouflage · 11/03/2020 20:02

Same as @Hodge85, had the flu jab at 6 weeks, no side effects, now 26 weeks. I wouldn't hesitate if I were you. I also had the whooping cough vaccine at 18 weeks (that's when it's recommended from where I am). Again, no side effects (other than a sore arm for a couple days). Do what you can to protect yourself and your baby.

Bol87 · 11/03/2020 21:07

I have every immunisation available .. no idea why you wouldn’t.

I would say that yes, regular flu season winds down by April-ish BUT with the whole Coronavirus thing, I’d say it’s even more worth it. Obviously the jab doesn’t protect you from that but hospitals are likely to going to become very stretched & if you can prevent getting regular flu & having to be treated alongside Corona patients or there not being enough beds etc.. seems a sensible decision to have it!

PumpkinMun · 11/03/2020 21:29

I have had my vaccinations through my pregnancy and wouldn't dream of not. It protects both yourself and your baby.
Your immune system is low through pregnancy and if you get ill you can't take much for it.
I've had colds and a throat infection through my pregnancy and that was awful nevermind getting the flu.

alesha01 · 13/03/2020 21:16

It's your choice completely I haven't had mine personally but I'm booking in for the whooping cough vaccine when I'm 30 weeks, I've had previous bad reactions to the vaccines so I don't feel comfortable getting it while pregnant as I don't know how my body will react.

PrinnyPree · 14/03/2020 01:21

Yes please get the flu and whooping cough vaccines, your baby deserves to be immunised and it will drastically reduce your chance of getting seasonsl flu. Corvid 19 just goes to show how vulnerable we are to viruses with no vaccines so please get vaccinated against the ones we do have cures for. Xxx
