I just got told not to stretch above my head because the cord will wrap itself round the baby's neck. (I'd just painted a ceiling). Any other potty warnings?

I had a particulary stressful pregnancy with MS till 22 weeks, AND, a DH who is away Mon-Fri and a 5 year old to boot.

My MIL told me I had to stop getting stressed as I would worry the baby's hair out

My DD was the hairiest child I've ever seen, LOL.

She also told me that she had such bad heartburn when pg with my DH and quaffed so much milk of magnesia that he came out coated in white powder . methinks it was vernix.

she also said, when I was having particulary painful Braxton Hicks and was nearly admitted at 32 weeks as they thought I might be in premature labour, we didn't have those in my day

When I was expecting my DS, I was told to drink lots of milk so that I would have enough to BF him LOL. Like there was a tube that went from my mouth into my boobs?!

Also, when I was REALLy pg, I had lots of strangers touching my bump, saying that it was for good luck?!

Good luck for you or their fertiity attempts?

Being pregnant in China, you never hear the end of it. My favourites so far are that if you're "ugly" during pregnancy you'll have a boy, and that if you eat crab while you're pregnant your child will be naughty.

When pregnant with ds1 I was told not to go upstairs or the baby could fall out.

When pregnant with ds2 I was told to take extra special care of ds1 who could die of jealousy after the baby was born.

I knew someone at a toddler group, who had her first baby a couple of weeks earlier than I had my second one.

We were talking about how hot it had been that summer and she said 'Oh, it was so hot that I did a terrible thing'. I was expecting for her to say that she'd downed a bottle of vodka or something.

She said 'It was so hot that I put a mattress on the floor and opened the window and lay in the draft.'

I was waiting for the end of the story but that was it - pregnant women shouldn't lay in a breeze on a hot day.

My grandmother insists you shouldn't get out of bed for 10 days following birth or you do terrible damage to your womb (if you don't die from a DVT presumably).

Forgot to add, this time I won't be able to breastfeed in the evenings because I've already got three children .

My dh's SIL said she couldn't vacuum and her dh did it for her. Wish I'd thought of that.

My MIL told me that DP was born with a tan because it was such a hot summer. Hmm.

Eaglebird · 08/09/2007 15:47

My auntie told me not to wallpaper when pg, as reaching up would snap the cord

"You'll become very stupid while pregnant. I first read an Agatha Christie book when pregnant, it had never occurred to me to read one previously. It definitely affects your brain"
