Morning after pill in gp record

Throughout pregnancy, will i ever need to disclose to anyone having previously taken the morning after pill, despite it being in my gp record?
Those of you who have MAP in your gp history, has it ever come up?

Unsure why it’d matter if you’ve ever taken it unless you didn’t need it? No one will ask

BumbleNova · 10/03/2020 08:32

Why would it be relevant? It's not a big deal.

Anonymousworrier12 · 10/03/2020 08:32

The circumstances surrounding the need to take it is an uncomfortable conversation for me, hence why i dont ever want it to be brought up! Sad

The only time it's relevant is if MAP failed and resulted in this pregnancy as it can increase the risk of an ectopic pregnancy. They may need to do an early scan just to check where the pregnancy is. After that it's of no relevance and is unlikely to ever be mentioned. If it was taken previously and is unrelated to this pregnancy it won't ever come up unless you mention it

freddiochangio · 10/03/2020 08:34

I never had to to disclose it in two pregnancies so I’m sure you won’t have to 😊 I took it more than once as well.

BogOffWinter · 10/03/2020 08:34

@OP I’ve had three children and taken the MAP twice, I’ve never once been asked if I’ve taken it. I’m not going to assume why you needed to take it, but pregnancy can throw up a lot of unresolved and difficult feelings so please get some rl support if you can Flowers

ZaphodBeeblerox · 10/03/2020 08:35

Are you worried about your partner finding out you took the MAP OP? I took the MAP twice years ago but it was from a pharmacist and I don’t think it was on my GPs record. In my experience I rarely saw my GP during pregnancies, and that too only alone. DH came along for some midwife appointments but they had only pregnancy related info on their files that I relayed to them in the booking appointment. Things like birth control or MAP never came up there although they do ask how the baby was conceived.

Flibbledibble · 10/03/2020 08:40

I've taken the MAP twice, and had two pregnancies several years later. It never came up, no one ever asked about it....it never crossed my mind that it would be relevant

Bol87 · 10/03/2020 08:41

Stop worrying OP! This is your 3rd thread asking the same question!

No, you won’t have to talk about the morning after pill. If it’s your OH you are worried about, its confidential medical information that they can’t discuss in front of anyone else. And unless you took the morning after pill in relation to this pregnancy, it won’t be mentioned. I’ve taken it twice & had two pregnancies. It’s never been mentioned once. In fact, it’s never been mentioned ever at any GP appointment etc!

If you did take it in relation to this pregnancy, it may be relevant & your midwife may need to check baby is OK and not ectopic..

caffeinefix · 10/03/2020 08:42

It's never asked, OP Thanks

coffeeforone · 10/03/2020 08:42

It really shouldn't come up. I only seen my GP once throughout two pregnancies, at the beginning of the first one just for a point in the right direction for midwife care. I think the GP receptionist would have been able to in hindsight.

I don't think midwives see your medical records. They do ask lots of questions but 100% wasn't asked if I'd taken emergency contraception before. It's not relevant at all if you have taken it in the past (though I've just bought it from boots, so wouldn't be recorded but I don't think it being prescribed would make any difference).

I'd probably only raise it myself with the midwife if the pregnancy was a resulted in a cycle despite taking a MAP, I.e. it effectively 'failed'.

Pilot12 · 10/03/2020 08:43

They usually only ask you about any previous pregnancies including terminations. It's a midwife and maternity hospital that will deal with your pregnancy, neither had access to my GP records.
