Placenta Previa - I've been given no advice

I was told at my 20 week scan on Monday that the placenta is covering my cervix. I was given no advice on it or what it really meant other that "It's blocking your baby's way out but it can move by 32 weeks". I've seen all sorts on the internet now about not having sex and taking it easy? What should I do in terms of work? I work in retail so that involves a lot of being on my feet, rushing around and bending over. I'm not sure what I should and shouldn't be doing!

essentially do what you would normally do but if you have any bleeding go to hospital immediately. I was essentially told that resting has no impact on whether you have a bleed or whether it moves and it’s better for your overall health to do what you’d normally do including sex being fine. For the vast majority of people it won’t cause any issue and will move or you’ll have a planned section for the small amount of people where it doesn’t move

It depends entirely. I had placenta previa at both 20 weeks scans but no symptoms (ie bleeding) so they just left it alone with plans to re-scan shortly before 40 weeks to check whether it had moved.

My friend had pp with major symptoms from 20wks onwards (massive bleeds) and was admitted to hospital at 34 weeks and given a c-section at 37w after 3 weeks of bed rest.

Its very common to see at 20wks but if it's not causing you any symptoms there's nothing to do really, just wait and see if it moves enough to avoid a c section.

I was the same OP, also worked in retail.

I carried on as normal, and never had any bleeding. But I knew if bleeding started that when I was to go to hospital and could potentially be put on rest.

By 32 weeks my placenta had moved (which it does in most cases) and I went on to have a vaginal delivery.

Same for me. I had pp early on but it moved and baby and belly grew! In most cases this is completely fine and causes no issues at all

I know it's frustrating but you just have to wait and see as it's impossible to predict what will happen.

Some resolve themselves - I think the figure is 9/10 and some don't. Some women get bleeding and some don't. My advice is to carry on an normal unless you bleed and push your GP to refer you for more scans or pay to have them privately to monitor it. If it hasn't moved by 28 weeks then I imagine your GP will be happy sign you off work so you're not on your feet all day.

If it's an IVF pregnancy, you are over 35 and have had previous c sections or surgery it is less likely to resolve.

I have placenta previa - was picked up at the 20 week scan, had a bleed at 24 weeks and another one at 28 weeks. I'm 35 weeks now and had no bleeding since although scans show placenta hasn't moved.

Your retail job should be fine.

I was told avoid anything that might directly impact the cervix, e.g. sex or something like horseback riding, and to call the antenatal assessment unit if there is any bleeding.
