Hi everyone
I'm new to mumsnet and have just found out we are expecting our 2nd baby. I'm delighted but had forgotten how dreadful I felt for the first 3 months and it has kicked in again already. I have an exam next week and am finding it impossible to study due to constant nausea and exhaustion. I'd be so grateful for any tips at all.
thank you :-)

Congratulations on your preg. but full sympathy on the sickness. I had the same. Sipping cold lemonade worked for me and ginger and peppermint tea (or any other form inc. ginger biscuits) are traditionally v good for nausea. Sleep when you can or need to and just try to take it easy. Your body knows what it needs to do and will pretty much insist on doing it so please be kind to yourself. Best of luck with the exam.

Poor you. Have you tried travel bands? I carried a bottle of diluted squash everywhere with me because I often just needed a little bit of a sugar rush to give me energy.

Lucozade is supposed to be good, I found the travel sickness wrsit bands also helped.

Can sympathise totally, the 1st 3 months are yuck!

Ooooh I remember this. Last thing at night put slices of ginger and lemon in a cup, cover witrh boiling water and let steep overnight. Sip it slowly before getting out of bed.

Also I carried branflakes everywhere - nibbling 1-2 helped the waves pass.

Also I carried a thing of lemon oil so I could sniff it when I felt rough, really helped until I dropped the bottle in front of my boss and ruined her suede trousers. Was at that stage where you're keeping it quiet so was a hard one to explain away!!

thanks so much everyone.
I'd completely forgotten but lucozade really helped last time! Think I'll get some right now!
I can't stomach any herbal tea at all at the moment which is a shame. Its such a strange thing morning sickness isnt' it. I usally love all my herbal teas and now just the smell of them makes me ill.
I'll definitely try the travel bands as well.
Thanks for support, what a great site to have stumbled across! :-)

TKV - I was the same! Had drunk p/mint tea for years and as soon as I really needed it, the very thought would make me retch!! Am ok now, am even managing to drink rasp. leaf tea, which is RANK (which is why you never see it in most shops!!!)

Hope the Lucozade helps

TKV · 04/10/2004 15:26

the only other thing that seems to make a difference is constant eating!! If my stomach is empty the nausea is so much worse. I am constantly gazing longingly into the fridge and cupboards. I'll be huge before I'm even through the first trimester at this rate!

Oh well :-)

Hi TKV

Ooh, congrats! I can totaly understand i had all day sickness with dd and had to get two buses to work and two buses back EVERY DAY sob
I was going to suggest Peppermint tea and ginger as well, but they've already been suggested and also snacking little and often. Try and nibble something before getting out of bed in the morning as well.

Best of luck with the exam!

Eat constantly. I found an empty stomach was the worst. In the usa you can get these crackers called Saltines which are really great for munching on. I've seen similar ones here in our local Oriental food store. I think they are from hongkong. They are square light coloured and have small granules of salt on them, and they have a very delicate flavor, so doesn't make you sick. Maybe someone else can tell you what they are called here.

i too was ill all day - needed to just constantly nibble - they do a biscuit similar to what sofia mentioned - italian crackers - really helped. Unfortunately can't remember what they were called. Brown packet and then smaller packets inside with about 5 crackers in them.

I've changed my mn nickname btw just to confuse everyone, tkv was a bit boring but all I could think of at the time.
