Hi all, at my 16 week midwife appointment she told me to book an appointment with my GP at 25 weeks. Does anyone know what this is for? I am seeing my consultant every 4 weeks and also my midwife regularly and dont want to have to ask my husband to come unless there is important information.

I’m guessing this is your first pregnancy. For some reason in first pregnancies (or in some subsequent high risk ones) it’s policy to see the GP three times instead of the midwife. It’s always pretty much the same appointment though - urine check, bump measure, listen to heartbeat and check how you are. It is a good opportunity if you need anything prescribed for heartburn etc.

Yes it is my first. Good to know what it is. I'll let DH decide if he wants to come to that. Thank for your help!

This is strange. I'm having my first baby and I'm already 36 weeks but I haven't seen my GP at all during my pregnancy.
Only the midwife + a one-off appointment with the consultant (due to underscore thyroid).

But as PP has stated, perhaps it's a policy in your area?

*underactive not underscore!! Confused

First pregnancy here and you only see the GP at 25 and 31 weeks, the rest is midwife. They do the usual bump measurement, urine check, heartbeat. Any pregnancies after you skip the GP appointments in my area.

In my area, after 16 weeks, we alternate appointments between the midwife and GP until late pregnancy. That's for a first pregnancy. Not sure about subsequent pregnancies.

Nothing unusual, the appointments were exactly the same. I think it's because there's a shortage of community midwives, so they're not over burdened.

Thanks all Smile
