Third trimester and needing to wee all the time!

I’m 32 weeks pregnant and feel like I need to wee every hour or so. I only drink about a liter of fluid every day so nothing excessive! When I do go the the toilet not that much wee comes out. I’m also struggling more with pelvic floor exercises, in that I’m finding it harder to clench and hold. I get the feeling that my bladder is being pressed on/squeezed and that is what’s causing the problem. Is this normal?

Also I’m getting quite a bit of clear discharge now - to the point where it leaves a soaked patch on my underwear. Is that normal?!

Think it's normal, I was the same but probably best to speak to your midwife in case it's a UTI

I’ve had UTIs before and it’s definitely not that level of discomfort - it’s just a bit annoying.

I mean, your bladder is basically being headbutted by a small human, so it's understandable it feels a bit weird.

That said, 1l of fluids a day sounds like a very small amount to me, and I'd be inclined to suggest drinking quite a bit more.

wondering7777 · 06/03/2020 07:45

I’ve never drunk a lot of fluid - I just don’t get thirsty very often and when I do try to drink more, I literally have to force it down as I don’t feel thirsty.

Oh, I'm exactly the same - I pretty much never get thirsty - but during pregnancy I've been making a really concerted effort to drink more liquids than I normally would.

I would say this feeling is normal. I know you didn't ask for advice about your fluid intake, but I agree with pp that you need to drink more. I understand the struggle because I am constantly pushing myself to drink enough. You need to drink enough for the amniotic fluid and just to feel good in yourself. The reason you are not feeling thirsty is because you are constantly dehydrated and the brain stops sending the thirst signal. Try to sip water throughout the day and you should start to notice you feel thirsty more often.

Definitely normal!! It was so annoying having to go between lessons all day long (I am a teacher). Make sure you drink lots, especially during your last trimester.

wondering7777 · 06/03/2020 08:06

Thanks everyone. Worried about the lack of drinking now - could I have harmed my baby?

No not at all. Its just more important now you are in the last trimester due to the amniotic fluid and the extra pressure on your body. Good luck!!

MsChatterbox · 06/03/2020 13:31

No, don't panic ☺️. Just start doing your best!

@wondering7777 am exactly the same am 33 weeks dont drink more than 1liter and so.e days not even that this is my 2nd pregnancy and my little boy who is 4 next month is fine so dont worry about your fluid intake to much drinking little and often is always good but might mean more toilet breaks it's the night time disruption I hate having to get up through night lol

Honeybee85 · 06/03/2020 14:12

I had the same thing. It immediately changed after birth as I was scared to pee because my stitches hurt so badly!

I thought nothing of it, just stayed close to a toilet at all times (and took some spare knickers in my handbag with me just in case Blush)

I think you do need to get it checked for a UTI op.

I have suffered with them my whole life, but when I was pregnant I had one at around 35 weeks and I didn’t know, it then progressed into a kidney infection and I put a lot of the pain down to late pregnancy discomfort and having a massive bump. I eventually was in awful pain and went to hospital where I had a serious infection and it had turned to sepsis. I don’t want to scare you, but best to check!

Also, I felt like I had to force more water down too, I was drinking double what you are per day and I still needed several bags of fluid to rehydrate (probably linked to the sepsis) but you can’t drink too much water.

Hope you have an easy last few weeks!

Your bladder is squashed by a massive watermelon so yes, this is normal.
