Looking into these as a serious option once we're home & settled! Can anyone recommend and easy all in one nappy from newborn onwards? Do they all need a wrap/outer cover and any massive do or donts?
Guessing with wipes they should be kept in a tub of water all the time ready for use? Tips for washing and buying etc mucho appreciated thanks guys, hubby won't be on board if it's too much "faff" 😂 x

Cant comment on nappies, but look up cheeky wipes

Pentium85 · 05/03/2020 21:04

I second the PP, cheeky wipes are great.

We used disposable nappies but reusable wipes and I found that a nice middle ground

Hercwasonaroll · 05/03/2020 21:06

Cheeky wipes

I used totsbots and close pop ins.

The nappy lady website has a quiz which looks at your lifestyle and recommends brands.

Showmethecake · 05/03/2020 21:35

I’ve used them on and off with two babies so far. Definitely a good idea to try different brands to see what suits you and baby best. I used all in ones and pocket nappies but had to sell a load as my second was a heavy wetter and some couldn’t cope!
Baba and boo I found really good and easy to use, pop ins and think we used some bumgenius too.
Babipur has a good selection or find a local nappy library.
Cheeky wipes or similar and we just wetted as needed at home or when out and about keep a bottle of water with you or there’s usually a sink in baby change rooms.
Look up clean cloth nappies UK on Facebook for good wash routines.
It seems a bit overwhelming to start with but you’ll soon get into it!
Good luck!

Oh also it’ll be real nappy week sometime in late April so there’ll be lots of offers on

schafernaker · 05/03/2020 23:34

😊 we use cheeky wipes and then TotsBots and a few bambino mio thrown in

cattaxi · 06/03/2020 02:56

We love close pop in nappies. But definitely try a library as different brands suit different shapes.
Does your council do a voucher scheme? Worth looking into. Spend your voucher during real nappy week - there will be lots of good deals around.
Cheeky wipes are great. So are the ikea pack of 10 flannels.
Congratulations!

Do The Nappy Lady questionnaire to get a recommendation suited to your family

www.thenappylady.co.uk/advice-questionnaire.html

There is also a ton of information and advice on her website too.

www.thenappylady.co.uk/news/choosing-your-nappy-system.html

I use pocket nappies for daytime and a 2 part system at night. I prefer The Nappy Lady own brand wipes over cheekynwipes as they are larger and better on poo. I keep some pre-wetted and others I dry and wet as needed under the tap.

there are some nappy groups on facebook that offer a wealth of advice and informtion as well as being a good place to buy preloved nappies, my fb feed is 90% nappies these days. Grin

a couple of places (e.g. fill your pants, nappy lady) do starter / trial packs so you get the chance to try a few different options which could help you find what works for you & baby at first? as a couple of other people have mentioned too, the nappy lady is a great resource though i did find her recommendations for me were way out of my price range unfortunately.

i am hoping / planning to do muslins/terry cloths with wraps on top as this feels like the most economically viable for me with twins.

good luck with whatever approach you end up with Smile

Isthistrueor · 06/03/2020 16:40

Lots of people recommend cheeky wipes but I’ve never used them because they’re expensive. I buy cheap fleece wipes on eBay and just wet them under the tap as and when I need them.

I use lots of different nappy brands, I like Bambino Mio best.

LoisLittsLover · 06/03/2020 16:42

I just use cheap flannels for wipes and wet them as I go. Nappies, I like bambino mio all in one, got ours in aldi during their baby event

FraterculaArctica · 06/03/2020 18:40

Close pop ins are a great nappy which suit many shapes. You may struggle with birth to potty until your baby hits at least 9-10 lb though. You can buy a separate set of newborn nappies just for those first few weeks.

Namey32 · 06/03/2020 20:34

Bambino Mio work well for my DC, but different nappies suit different body shapes. We've also tried out some tots bots easifits which were good. It's worth trying a nappy library for a kit hire if there is one near you so you can see what works for your baby.
Definitely cheeky wipes - they're far superior to disposables for cleaning poopy bums.

Hello,

There are lots of options for reusable nappies and so it will depend on what your criteria is. Do you want slim-fitting, fast/slow drying, how absorbent should they be (ie. how often to change), cost etc? I would recommend filling in The Nappy Lady questionnaire. She was really helpful for us and we have been pleased with her recommendations.

Most nappy systems don't fit newborns and so you either have to buy a newborn set (expensive and only last a few weeks), go for folded muslins and wrap or stick with disposables until your baby reaches 9lb or 10lb.

We use washable fleece wipes (a cheaper version than Cheeky wipes is available), which we keep in a tupperware box with honey & camomile tea. We replace the tea bag and water every couple of days.

If this is your first baby I would recommend starting with disposables, because you will have a lot going on in the first few weeks! We started around 6 weeks when we had a bit more thinking space.

One other thing - be prepared for lots of washing. I am doing a 60 degree wash almost every day and my house is nearly always full of drying washing. But on the plus side my house is not filled with black sacks of disposables (newborns can get through a lot of nappies!). Things will be a little more manageable if you have a tumble dryer (we don't).

For nappies there are several facebook groups where you can buy and sell pre loved nappies. The nappy lady is really good, and you can rent a kit from her to try reusable nappies if you're not sure they're right for you. I did this, it was really helpful. There are a few different types of nappies, but the nappy lady website is very good at helping you understand the different terminology and products. She also has videos of how to put them on which I found really helpful.

I tended towards all in one nappies, where you have the fabric nappy and a waterproof outer layer all in one unit. I also preferred birth to potty nappies, that is nappies that can be adjusted up or down in size so your child wont outgrow them. I found that the key was being organised enough to get the wash on before I went to bed, and the nappies on the airer to dry first thing in the morning when I came downstairs. Not sure if it's just me but it seems most people end up with a bit of a stash of nappies, there are some very collectable designs out there, and if you buy second hand you can build up a bit of a collection, to allow you to not have to wash them so often.

With the reusable wipes, we love them, they are incredibly useful. We have cheeky wipes, we keep a box in ds's room, one in our room for dd and one downstairs. I find them all over the house though because they make such handy little cloths for wiping faces and cleaning hands as well as for nappy time.

We make up a wet solution for ours using a bit of mild baby shampoo, and some essential oils, mixed with water. Ours live in Tupperware type tubs, with lids, to keep them moist. We have a second container the same size to chuck them in after use and then when full we wash. I have enough wipes to manage doing 2 washes a week, with 2 kids in nappies. When out and about I do use regular wipes, just for convenience, but even just using them at home has saved us buying as many wipes, and hopefully saved the planet a bit too.

They can wash at 40 degrees, and will stand washing at 60 if you wish. They dont need to be dried if you're planning to keep them pre wetted, just straight back into the box out of the washing machine, with some fresh solution. While the wipes are in the washing machine I run our storage boxes through the dishwasher to get rid of any nasty stuff. Our wipes are coping admirably with all that a toddler and a 4 month old can throw at them.
