Unexpectedly 6 weeks along...

I've just had a positive test, putting me at 6 weeks, after having had a normal period two weeks ago, and the past few days some light spotting. I have the GP later this afternoon but I have no idea what to expect, especially because I took the MAP last cycle. I just don't know what to think - surely if I was miscarrying I wouldn't be getting a positive test?!

Just after a bit of a handhold or stories from people who have experienced similar really.

I'm confused, if you had a period 2 weeks ago why do you think you are 6w pregnant?

Jessie9323 · 05/03/2020 14:31

Light spotting is fairly normal I think (I never had a period with my second pregnancy). Was it just a wee strip test or a proper test as I'm pretty sure they are different strengths but it does sound like you are pregnant.

The gp will (if they actually do anything) just do a wee test too. Where I live anything to do with a baby is through the midwives.

I hope you are feeling ok, if you took the MAP I'm assuming this is something you didn't want.

Delbelleber

Based on the strong positive test I did today which would be otherwise impossible because I'm on day 18 since my last "period". The only time I could have possibly conceived was the time that prompted taking the MAP, which puts me at 6 weeks by the period before that.

Jessie9323 It was a proper test, and the second line came up very quickly. Thanks, feeling very conflicted about it, and confused.

It's 100% normal to be confused. My second pregnancy was a shock (I'm currently 29 weeks) but we had a just turned 6 month old and I wasn't sure I could cope or want another so quickly.

You have time to think about what you want, if you want it fine, but if you don't that is also fine. It's your body and your life and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Thanks Smile

Waiting on a call from the EPU with an appointment for tomorrow, the GP rang them to refer me to be investigated for an ectopic because of the pain I'm getting and the bleeding, though I think it's more precautionary because I'm otherwise well in myself. Trying to not get too ahead of myself and will wait and see what tomorrow brings.

Thinking about it, I have had achey boobs, some low-level nausea that's been sorted out by having a snack and I've been peeing loads but didn't think anything of it [embarrassed].

Heard back and I've to go in for a scan next week, when I'm 7+5 by the dates. I'm still bleeding a bit but not cramping so i guess we'll have to see how it goes. I feel a bit like I have schrodinger's embryo.

Have you told anyone that you know? Might be good to have someone to go with you?

greenleafycarrot · 06/03/2020 17:21

DH knows but I haven't told anyone else. He may or may not be able to get time off work to come along, but I hope he does mostly because it's at an awkward time for school run logistics.

What's a MAP?

greenleafycarrot · 07/03/2020 06:56

@UrsulaSings the Morning After Pill. We had a contraceptive failure and I took Ellaone the next morning. I was getting pregnancy symptoms in the days leading up to the bleed I had when my period was due, but didn’t think anything of them because I was told that can happen, and that your period might be a bit lighter/different to usual.

Unfortunately if you’ve already ovulated the MAP can be ineffective - I didn’t know this until my friend found herself in your situation - she went on to have a healthy little girl. Was your period 2 weeks ago fairly light?

Spotting can be normal, I had some spotting between 6 and 7 weeks. If your DH can’t get time off, it may be worth confiding in a friend who could accompany you?

greenleafycarrot · 07/03/2020 10:22

That's the thing Keyboard91 - I must have ovulated early or something, because by the dates I should have still had 3-4 days to go until my normal ovulation if I hadn't taken it. My period lasted the normal length of time and the flow was similar although possibly a bit lighter? It was definitely less clotty than normal, but I put that down to the pill. The bleeding I've been getting since then isn't clotty at all, and based on my highly scientific method of not doing my usual high impact exercise since finding out, it seems to be aggravated by when I do lots of jumping around/running. It's been like a trickle of fresh bright blood, when I go to the loo in the morning, then spotting pink to brown for the rest of the day.

Hope you are ok op!

greenleafycarrot · 12/03/2020 12:45

Thank you @Jessie9323. I’m waiting for my appointment tomorrow but I think I’ve miscarried and just really need to have it confirmed tomorrow at the scan.
