Hi all

I'm currently 7 weeks and experiencing some bleeding. When I was 5 weeks pregnant I had some pink spotting that only lasted a day and the midwife wasn't worried about it. Yesterday I started to bleed again but this was brown discharge, again the midwife wasn't worried.
However last night it started to turn into fresh blood. It there only twice and when I wiped before turning back into brown discharge

I've attached a picture as I don't know if it's anything to worry about (sorry it's gross!)

I did get some period like pains too

I think I might call my midwife this morning and ask for a scan. What do you all think?

Definitely call and try get a scan. I had this when I was six weeks and my midwife arranged a scan and it turns out I have a hematoma in my uterus. I'm still bleeding fairly heavily (9 weeks now) but I've had four scans and all have shown a strong heartbeat.

Elliesmommy · 05/03/2020 08:04

You should get it checked. Had something similar with my now 2.5 yo dd at 5 and 6 weeks . Put your mind at ease and get it checked

flyinghedgehog · 05/03/2020 08:22

I'd go straight to your GP. I've had this happen twice and my GP immediately referred me to the early pregnancy unit at the hospital for a scan - which happened within a couple of days. IME midwives aren't very interested in pregnancies until later on.

Lodex · 05/03/2020 08:24

Hiya I would get checked out just to be on the safe side. I had bright red blood at 13 weeks and was checked but everything was ok. Also important if you are negative blood type as you may need an anti d injection, I had to have one x

SassyPants87 · 05/03/2020 10:04

Thank you ladies. I called the midwife and they are going to call me back and triage me and see if I need to get into the hospital today

My bleeding has now changed to brown and clotting. I've attached a picture I don't know if anyone has had similar but I'm automatically assuming the worst now :(

Do you still have pregnancy symptoms? Do you have any tests at home you can do? When I had my first miscarriage all of my symptoms disappeared and the lines on preg tests were getting lighter as my HCG was dropping. I assumed it was happening again this time but baby was fine when I went for my scan and HCG was really high. 25% of people have spotting or bleeding in first trimester apparently so try and stay positive until you get checked. Hospital should see you but you can get scanned privately for around £45 if that's doable? Can usually get a same day appointment too

pollysproggle · 05/03/2020 10:15

I had same at 7 weeks with first pregnancy. Went to a&e for a scan and all was well, he's 13 now.
Get it checked and good luck

Windyatthebeach · 05/03/2020 10:18

Brown blood is old blood. Not necessarily bad op.
Ring your mw though.
She should arrange a scan.

AluminumMonster · 05/03/2020 10:26

I had a bit of brown spotting around same time and it was told by a private scan it looked like a small subchorionic hematoma. I went on to have a healthy pregnancy. Good luck with your scan Thanks

LittleBrownBaby · 05/03/2020 11:45

I've had 3 weeks of pink/ brown and red spotting / bleeding. My scan showed a heartbeat and a pool of blood outside the baby's sack, in my uterus. Good luck

Isthistrueor · 05/03/2020 12:18

I’ve had pink spotting in healthy pregnancies but never brown or red. I only had brown spotting when I had a missed miscarriage despite the midwife insisting it was fine because it was ‘old blood’, it was bad news for me I’m afraid. I’d try and get a scan if I were you.

Sorry you are going through this and apologies if the following is TMI. I carried a small, sterile urine type jar with me, and when I passed the clots of products, collected them. The EPU wouldn't do any genetic testings, but did send it to pathology and I got a report. It confirmed there was a small foetus there (Early scans showed nothing, so I was thinking it might be a blighted ovum) and it wasn't a molar pregnancy. It did till MC, but it did provide a small amount of comfort having an official report.

Again, sorry if TMI, but if you soak clots in salty water or saline, they will eventually dissolve completely into the water, whereas pregnancy products wont dissolve. If you are sending it to the lab though, there is no need to soak it beforehand.

Best of luck, and hopefully its just some old blood coming away x

Hi all

Thank you so much for your responses

It's been an emotional morning! I called my midwife who referred me to EPU but EPU refused to see me! Honest to god sometimes the NHS is amazing and other times it's an absolute shocker!! They were like we'd only see you if you were bleeding masses amounts to the point where it's critical to your health!

So I managed to get a private scan today and I'm so glad to say that the baby is fine!! I've literally just been crying non stop, both when I thought I lost the baby and now knowing it's fine. The sonographer did find two small bleeds away from the baby that looked like they were burst blood vessels but she didn't seem to think it was a big deal but pinpointed where my bleeds where coming from

Just going to rest up now and take it easy xx

My local EPU wouldn't scan me in similar circumstances. They all vary in how they work. Hope you get some reassurance via a private scan.

MrsRose2018 · 05/03/2020 13:46

@SassyPants87 where are you based hun?

I mentioned this to another woman in your situation but I’m based in Manchester and St Mary’s hospital have an Emergency Gyne Unit who will see any pregnant woman with symptoms of a MC on the same day! They will do your bloods and if it’s before 5pm a vaginal scan

X

Windyatthebeach · 05/03/2020 13:47

Great news!

SassyPants87 · 05/03/2020 14:14

@MrsRose2018 I'm based in Nottingham so not too far from you! Wow your EPU sounds great!! I was really disappointed in mine but their 'rules' seem to vary across the county x
