Hi all

I’m only just over 5 weeks and I am starving hungry all the time! I’m really conscious to try and eat healthy so that I don’t gain too much weight... I’m sure this is a common symptom so just after suggestions - what helped you through snack wise?

Apple slices dipped in peanut butter
Cottage cheese mixed with fresh berries or pineapple chunks
Frozen grapes (so refreshing!) and cheese strings
Mini pizzas made by topping a whole grain English muffin or bagel with tomato sauce, low-fat cheese, and finely chopped veggies, then grilled.
Mini bean & cheese quesadilla. (Wrap black beans, salsa, and some shredded cheese in a small tortilla, then cook in a dry, nonstick pan until the cheese is melted and the tortilla is lightly browned).
Chocolate milk
Cuppa porridge
A gherkin wrapped in a slice of Swiss cheese. (This isa standard pregnant lady favourite!)
Fresh raw veggies (baby carrots, cucumber slices, red pepper strips, snap peas, celery, broccoli, cauliflower) dipped in hummus or Greek yogurt dip.

I ate loads of lentils, cheese, spinnach, fruit & chocolate croissants Confused

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 05/03/2020 07:08

Oh and tofu!

vampirethriller · 05/03/2020 07:12

Apples and watermelon.

elb1504 · 05/03/2020 07:19

Not particularly healthy but salt and vinegar crisps were always a good one for me. Then just trying to have lots of fruit and veg when I could stomach it.

Dont worry too much about trying to eat healthy in the first few weeks if you feel sick just eat when you need to.

Nuts and peanut butter on toast

M0reGinPlease · 05/03/2020 07:22

I found six small meals a day at this stage was what I needed. Poached eggs on toast was my staple! Lots of carb-loading.

Couldn't stomach anything in early pregnancy except plain pasta Blush Gained 3 stone overall which wasn't threat, but lost it all afterwards through breastfeeding/eating normally. Try not to worry about it too much

Wow thank you for the suggestions so far! Lots of great ideas!
Keep them coming :-)

Crackers with cheese
Biscuits
Extra cold drinks

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 05/03/2020 09:09

Porridge I find works really well for me! Healthy carbs.

Also apples for some reason?!

xxxemzyxxx · 07/03/2020 16:06

Satsumas - lots of them!
Cheese
Bbq flavoured crisps
Not all healthy but have been my savour the last few weeks when everything else made me feel sick

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 07/03/2020 16:16

It's hard to say really because if you're 5 weeks you probably have a week or so left before the nausea really kicks in and takes over. That's when the struggling with food starts and you tend to only be able to eat whatever you can eat (usually carbs carbs carbs).

In the early weeks I lived on pasta, fry ups, potatoes and found that eating bigger meals rather than snacks made me feel better for longer.

I did keep an eye on my calories and I'm now 20 weeks and not gained any weight yet.

The starving/sickness does wear off eventually though so keep hope!

userabcname · 07/03/2020 16:18

Crisps and toasts. Or whatever I didn't throw up again immediately!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 07/03/2020 16:55

Anything "fresh" so avocados, watermelon, big coped salads with olive oil and lemon, cucumber, that kind of thing.

Margo34 · 07/03/2020 17:09

Raisins
Ryvita with cheese
Cucumber sticks

Betsyboo87 · 07/03/2020 17:55

I’m obsessed with making soups. Started around 8 weeks and still going at 24. I make a big batch up each Sunday and that lasts me a week. Easy to heat when needed and i also freeze the excess. DH doesn’t get home from work until later so I have a bowl as soon as I get home and it keeps me going until dinner. It’s also good for lunches.

Loads of recipes online or make up your own. I use veg and then lentils or chickpeas to thicken it up. I have been completely off greens during my pregnancy and I find I can “hide” some spinach in the soup for some extra iron.
