Gestational diabetes test after age 35?

Is it standard to have this test if you are over 35? I saw a midwife today who is booking me in for one at 27 weeks (I'm almost 20 weeks now) she said it's because I'm over 35.
Yet another midwife I saw a few weeks ago said I didn't need one because I wasn't overweight.
Is it standard for all women over 35 to have one even if you have no risk factors? I haven't gained any weight so far this pregnancy and I've never smoked and don't drink. No family history of it etc.

I had one for my 1st at 35 as he was measuring on the top centile time, when my second came at 36 they didn't do it then as no risk factors

Hmm I'm paranoid now that she's not telling me something! Never seen this midwife before and she booked me one before feeling my belly. Maybe she thought I looked fatter than I weigh Confused
I'm a size 12 and 5'7 so nothing extreme.

Am 35 and 33 weeks and I wasnt offered it and have never heard of that before x

I don’t believe so, maybe it varies on your trust? I’m over 35 and wasn’t offered one and I have no other risk factors. In fact I do have GD and baby is little (as am I!) so sometimes there are no risk factors. It’s good you are being offered it because it can be really bad undiagnosed and I’m very grateful mine was picked up when it was. I’m sure all will be well x

I'm 35 and the only reason I was offered it is because my bmi was over 30. I don't remember them mentioning age at all.

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 03/03/2020 23:50

Thanks ladies, my BMI is normal so wasn't that either. Oh well, I'll have the test anyway Smile

I had to have the test as I have a large bump, literally no other risk factors came back absolutely fine.

mynameiscalypso · 04/03/2020 07:39

It totally depends on your Trust - it was standard at mine for everyone over 35 to have one no matter what their BMI

tacosplease · 04/03/2020 07:40

I’m over 35 and haven’t been offered this. They did find a trace of sugar/glucose in my wee sample at the last midwife appointment though, and if they detect anything again at the next one I’ll have to have further tests. Really hoping the next one comes back clear!

It depends on policy. I've been pregnant in France and Greece and both times got tested as standard. Everyone gets tested in France through the public health care system, although I am not 100% sure about public health in Greece as my gynea was private.

If the test has been offered to you, why not just do it? There is no risk associated with it, you might just end up wasting a few hours of your life sitting around waiting for the second blood test, but that's it.

Booboostwo · 04/03/2020 07:58

Just to clarify, everyone gets tested in France regardless of age or risk factors.
