Underweight in 1st trimester

Hi all

So I've always been a thin person and pounds tend to yo yo on me

In my first trimester I've just lost my appetite and I just don't want to eat anything! I'm forcing myself to eat as much as I can but I know it's no where near what my calorie intake should be

I'm now borderline on my BMI and am being classed as underweight :(

Has this happened to anyone else before? I want to make sure I'm putting on the pounds and keeping the baby healthy but I just can't seem to have the stomach to eat!

It's completely normal to be that way in the 1st trimester and many people do lose weight.
I was borderline underweight when I got pregnant then HG gave me a big kick into underweight as I lost half a stone, but my midwife has never raised any concern about it.
Dont worry, try to snack as much as possible :)

My lovely grandson was almost 8lb despite his mum being underweight in the first trimester. She was weighed at 8 weeks pregnant and was flagged up as her bmi at that point was close to 18. He was fine and she ate well once she got over the morning sickness stage. Little and often helped.

I’ve always struggled to gain weight. My bmi was 19 when I got my bfp and I lost a few pounds in the first trimester as I could stomach very little. By 14 weeks I was able to eat a lot more and I’ve gained 1lb per week since (now 23 weeks).

I’m not in the UK (assuming you are) so I’m not sure how it works but my dr weighs me at my monthly visits and has never commented. If you have concerns then have a chat with your midwife and they’ll be able to advise you best on weight gain.

My BMI was 16 when I got pregnant with both my kids. I'm just built like that and it wasn't an issue. I did get extra scans because of it but first was 6lbs and second was 7lb so not overly small.

This is not a problem I’ve had! But I suppose the key will be to make sure the food you have is hugh calorie. Ie. Avocados, peanut butter, nuts etc for snacks.
