Transverse at 37 weeks

At my 37 week midwife check she has found the baby is transverse. I suspected anyway as bump has been very uncomfortable and I could feel the solid head/bum shaped mounds at either side.

Booked in for a scan and consultant appointment tomorrow morning, and wondering if anybody with experience of this can tell me what to expect next if baby hasn't moved? The NHS website suggests hospital admission Confused but doesn't say how late they wait for things to resolve naturally before resorting to that.

Sorry no experience of this, I've heard that it's possible to try and reposition the baby manually but I'm really not sure about this. Did you ask your midwife ?

Wintersun13 · 03/03/2020 09:52

When I say manually I mean they would manipulate your bump to try to move the baby. But again, not sure about this and it may not be an option depending on baby's size and position.

Pregnancy yoga is meant to help reposition the baby. I've not heard of being admitted due to this but I think you may have to have a c section. I would good ways to move baby today. Good luck

Thanks both - I've been alternating between all fours and bouncing on my exercise ball since getting home. Plan to keep it up until appointment tomorrow when I think the consultant will talk me through options, just wanted to prepare myself mentally for what they might say!

My last pregnancy was transverse at the 39 week appointment. They kept me in hospital from then due to the risk of cord prolapse. After 5 days in hospital waiting for baby to turn (they turned every way except head down) I got tired of waiting and opted for a c-section. I reckon baby was wedged in as they had to use forceps to deliver.

I'm 38 weeks in 2 days and my baby is transverse breech.
Because of this I was checked regularly to see if he had moved... obvs he didn't.
My last scan and consultant app.they booked me on for a c section which is now next week when I turn 39 weeks.

They did offer to try and move the baby but I declined.

They discovered my baby was transverse when I was in labour. I was told to push and when nothing happened for an hour, the Dr examined me.
I had to go to theatre and have forceps. They were thinking a c section might have been necessary but got him out ok in the end.
The Dr was amazing. I had an episiotomy but only ended up with a slight year. Stitches healed really well and there is absolutely no lasting damage.

My son was frank breech at 38 werks. I saw an alternative therapy midwife and homeopath but he didn't move. I was determined to have a water birth after an awful labour/delivery experience with my daughter (ventouse delivery).

I eventually had a manual intervention. They gave me a muscle relaxant and literally manually turned him. It wasn't painful and worked!

I had the natural water birth I wanted - 5hrs, no tears despite that he was 2lb bigger than his sister.

I wish you luck

Thanks everyone, it's really reassuring to hear some success stories.

Good luck @Roozy123
