Hi all,

We booked to go Abu Dhabi in a couple of weeks (for 5 nights) when I will be 20 weeks pregnant. The midwife gave me the ok in terms of my pregnancy health but neither of us discussed the coronavirus issue.

I was fine to travel until now where I have heard that there are 2 Marriott-owned hotels in Abu Dhabi on lockdown due to 2 guests having tested positive for the virus.

We are staying at the Intercontinental, who I have contacted re my concerns. They have assured me the following:
“Our primary concern the health of our guest and everyone, however our Hotel is clear from the any contamination and we are still working to maintain with our Health and safety Manager”

This doesn’t really assure me as anything can happen in the next 2 weeks - or whilst we are there. I’m more concerned because of being pregnant, and because of my 3 year old travelling with hubby and I.

I’m also worried about the flight itself.

Should I consider cancelling the holiday?

AIBU?

Thank you for your responses all.

Today, we have decided to “cancel” our holiday due to news of schools in Abu Dhabi shutting due to the virus spreading in the Middle East.

Absolutely. Gutted.

I have travel insurance with my bank but looking to purchase a single trip elsewhere that has £0 excess.

I don’t know if I am supposed to declare my hyperemisis from earlier in the pregnancy.
Some sites don’t even have it as an option on the list of medical conditions.

How to proceed??

Any help appreciated.

Please no comments for purchasing ins “after”.

Thank you

I would go. The chances of getting coronoavirus are still considerably low and as others have mentioned, it's elderly people and people with pre-existing conditions such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease that are at risk of becoming seriously ill. Most people will only get minor cold symptoms. It also states this information on the World Health Organisation website but in the end, it depends how anxious the trip would make you feel.

I would personally cancel it but it depends gow much risk you are willing to take. When it comes about my baby I'm taking no risks no matter how small they may be.

It's here in my county in scotland....you might as well it's everywhere!
No you shouldn't have to declare as they don't consider pregnancy as a health condition despite having hyperemis.

There is no evidence yet that covid 19 cannot be transmitted vertically, sars for example is quite bad in pregnancy. I think it's reasonable to be on the safer side and avoid traveling.

We passed through newcastle airport on Wednesday
.
I just looked at all the staff who’d turn up to do that job for the day
The check in staff, staff in the shops, luggage handlers
Situation normal...they didn’t seem to be worried that they might be in a coronavirus hot spot.
Flight was good. I wiped the tray with a dettol wipe before eating and my hands.
People just need to be sensible.

I had 3 flights yesterday and passed through 4 airports....situation normal for everyone working at airports and on airlines.
As the above poster said, it's just about taking a few extra measures re personal hygiene and being sensible

I travelled to Lanzarote at 20 weeks (no confirmed cases) and don't regret it. Coronavirus is pretty much worldwide, or will be soon. Go enjoy yourself.. there's no hiding from it 🤷 x
