I am 12 weeks pregnant and have suffered in the past with a anal fissure, 6 weeks ago fissure returned along side two hemmaroids, I have been to my GP numerous times as the pain is so unbearable and after every bowl movement my bum throbs for 9 hours straight and the only way I can get slightly comfortable is by running a bath which at the moment I am running around 4 baths a day! GP is only prescribing lactulouse at the moment and I have been on this for WEEKS, I eat as much fibre as possible even to the point I check every item I eat to see if it has fibre in it. I have a consultation with hospital but this is on the 27th March and I don't think i can wait this long HELP PLEASE!!

Oh you poor thing. It’s the worst pain. I assume you’re drinking shit loads of water already.

Get some glycerine suppositories to avoid straining when you go to the loo, and maybe some dulco-ease to soften your poo, which should help with the healing. Keep up with the baths. And hang in there, there is no pain like it. Honestly, the pain of having a poo with a fissure was akin to the baby’s head tearing my vagina.

Oh my sympathies. I had a fissure and it was absolute agony. Ended up needing medication from a specialist that gave me a splitting headache every time I used it. Not sure how they’d go with medications and pregnancy though.

@ClubfootMaestro can you get glycerine suppositories without a prescription?

ClubfootMaestro · 01/03/2020 10:08

@Lilice yes you can, not even over the counter just off the shelf! Safe in pregnancy too, or at least my consultant told me I could use them.

Lilice · 01/03/2020 10:35

@clubfootmaestro thank you. Which shops can I get it from?

ClubfootMaestro · 01/03/2020 12:35

@lilice Boots or Superdrug will have it, most pharmacies and offer supermarkets. Look in the constipation section. They’re a lifesaver!

@ClubfootMaestro thank you

Witch hazel gel on your tissues whilst wiping, if the throbbing is as bad as that I'd be putting it on cotton wool pads and wearing it pressed up against problem area- it's so soothing. The only thing that has helped me long term (and is still helping me now) is a footstool my dad made me to keep my feet up on whilst I pooped. It's made to the same specifications of a squatty potty (without the price tag) and used for every single poop. as a long term sufferer (and it is sufferer, the throbbing aching pain is horrendous) it is bliss to be free from them now. You can get a sitz bath for inside your toilet seat to bathe the affected area in nice warm water after each movement too, so that you dont have to keep running a full bath. Drink plenty and up your fibre intake a little. Good luck and bless you Flowers

My sympathies OP, I’m 12 weeks PP and just getting over my pregnancy bum problems! I would use a laxative with macrogol in it (dulcosoft, movicol etc), they were much more effective for making everything “soft” for me! I took this alongside prunes and lots and lots of water. If you can use it when pregnant, scheriproct suppositories are great at relieving piles (it’s prescription only though).

Thanks all I am currently on bed rest and been prescribed some new bits, had a good day yesterday so I am praying! 🙏
