I think it is something like full pay for first 4 weeks, 90% for next two weeks, and then just over £100 a week for up to the 26 weeks. Then nothing from 26-52 weeks.

I will try and find exact figures for you.

\link{http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/employers/employee_pregnant.htm#1\Look here to start with - from an employer's PofV but gives you the key points.

According to that it is 90% for first 6 weeks (not 4 weeks at full)

katzguk · 04/10/2004 09:09

cool, i have got two choices with maternity leave at work
a. 18weeks full pay 8 week SMP (26 weeks total)
b. 9 weeks Full, 18 weeks 0.5 pay and 8weeks SMP (35 weeks)

then the option of topping up to 52 weeks with unpaid leave.

just trying to do the maths as to which option is best

Sorry for first link not working.

Wow, you have some fab Mat Pay arrangements!

As a teacher I got 1-4 weeks at full (including SMP); weeks 5-6 at 90% (including SMP) and then 7-18 weeks at half pay, plus SMP on top. I think now you get weeks 18-26 at just SMP too.

katzguk · 04/10/2004 09:12

bit confused - with the 8 weeks SMP i would get either 90% of pay or £102 which ever is lower?

i know its a great deal! i'm very lucky!

OP posts:
katzguk · 04/10/2004 09:13

to get this you have to have done 12 months continous service at the university

katzguk · 04/10/2004 09:14

i'm leaning towards option b because i can go back whenever but i give up my rights to maternity pay.

I don't think that you can ever get MORE than 90% of your full pay. So most people get the £102 UNLESS they are on a lower income.

i.e if someone only earn't £100 a week - they wouldn't be allowed to get £102 SMP, as more than 90% of their normal pay; instead they would get £90 (90% of their full pay)

Does that make sense?

katzguk · 04/10/2004 09:15

yep makes sense!! now have to work out how much i earn a week!!

Hulababy · 04/10/2004 09:16

So how do you get the 8 week's SMP - even after the normal SMP time limit is up? All seems very confusing!

Hulababy · 04/10/2004 09:17

Yep, have to go routing through your pay slips. But will yours get confusing with the holidays being atFT and term time PT - or are you paid the same about each week regardless? Sorry - personal a bit there.

katzguk · 04/10/2004 09:18

no get paid for 4 days throughout the year!

will have to ring personel and find out all about it! although should probably ring Dr's first!!!

Hulababy · 04/10/2004 09:19

LOL; may be an idea.

Although personnel should be able to do the figures for you - for both options and talk through your best option.

katzguk · 04/10/2004 09:20

yep - getting all excited now!! shock has worn off

Good on you!

Hoping I won't be too far bnehind yu. Pretty sure it's not this month (have AF symptoms already) but hopeully not too long. Christmas time is ideal for me to concieve - means I get summer holiday out of way and start mat leave at start of new year, (and get 6 week's for free)!

katzguk · 04/10/2004 09:28

sounds great - fingers crossed for you.

We've got our timing out slightly we were hoping for a jan 2006 baby meaning i would go back to work at the start of the summer hols and baby would be 6 weeks older before starting nursery

Lucky you. Self employed people (ie me!) only get the minimum £100 quid a week. Yet I pay my taxes too!!! I'm glad you are getting a good deal, but I wish I was and could afford to take more than a month off work . Am even thinking of taking out a bank loan to make it possible to have a few months off work.
