Breech baby

Hiya, so I’m 37+1 weeks and baby is breech with feet down. Decided not to try ECV so have been booked in for C section but not until I’m 40 weeks as no availability sooner! So I’m panicking as it’s my first and I have no idea how quickly baby will come if I do go into labour vs how quickly I can have a c section. Am I panicking unnecessarily or do you think I should be pushing for an earlier C section? I tried to speak to hospital about it but they just said they can’t move it and basically made me feel like I’m just being difficult. I am adamant if baby doesn’t turn I don’t want to risk a vaginal birth. I’ve heard c sections done in an emergency versus elective are much more traumatic so I guess I just need to hope baby stays put until 40 weeks?!
Any advice/ reassurance anyone can give would be appreciated Smile

Hi Srcra, my baby was breech too, but my waters broke 1 month early so had to have a EMCS. Spent ages waiting for them to prepare the room while in pain, but the procedure itself felt relaxed. It didn’t seem like an emergency.
For you, I think it’s good to wait. Let baby stay in there..no need to come out earlier! Good luck.

I’m 37 weeks and also have a breech baby. My section is booked for 39+3. I was told they do them anytime between 39-40 weeks, depending on the slots they have. Breech elective sections are fairly low priority as there is nothing wrong/concerning with mum or baby.

I’ve also been feeling a bit on edge about the whole thing, so I get your worries!

That said, it’s unlikely you’ll wake up in full blown labour & need to rush for immediate emergency surgery! I’d assume if you have any thoughts you are starting to go into labour, you’d need to contact MAU and explain the scenario & you’ll put on the emergency list! Obviously, it won’t be as relaxed & planned as an elective while not in labour but it’s unlikely to be super traumatic unless your labour is extremely quick and progressive!

I think the trauma comes from having been in labour & pain for hours & hours, baby to be getting distressed & being whipped down to surgery! Whereas you know your getting a section & will be well on guard for early signs of labour!

I had forceps in surgery last time after a 72 hour labour. DD was very unhappy, I was panicking, they shove all these consent forms in your face to sign that basically talk about death & traumatic injury and everyone was on edge! It wasn’t nice at all.

Good luck OP! I’m sure all will be fine Smile

Thank you both, you’ve helped put my mind at ease. I guess if she wants to stay in there until 40 weeks it’s not a bad thing to try and hold out.
Good luck with yours!
