My husband and I took 16 months to conceive, and were delighted to find out in November I was expecting.
We had a mild scare in December around 8 weeks, but we had a scan at the EPU and thankfully baby was ok. 12 week scan came and went without any issues so started to tell friends and family.
We had our 20 week scan this week, and the sonographer was having real issues seeing all the views of the heart. I tried walking up and down, the table was raised, tried a glass of water, tried going to the loo. Nothing worked. Because it was the heart, they booked us in for a scan the next day (yesterday) with the specialist.
The baby still wasn't cooperating, and tried all the same tricks again. Eventually the specialist asked me to get off the table so she "could explain what she could or couldn't see". Essentially what I think she was saying was that the heart is not symmetrical and that there is a leaky valve. I honestly wasnt taking much in by this point.
They have booked us into have an urgent fetal echo scan today at another hospital. I am relieved in one way as they had suggested it could be Monday and the thought of waiting a weekend to find out what was going on was pretty scary. But now am terrified about what the scan might show.
Has anyone else been in the same position and have any words of wisdom for me?
