I had mine yesterday.
I was so anxious, crying all week and thinking that I/my baby was going to die. That I'd feel everything and they wouldn't believe me and carry on.
It is worrying, the worst bit for me was the anaesthetist trying to find where to put my spinal block and trying not to move.
But I got my lovely baby out of it and couldn't be happier.

When is your section booked for?

I've had two. The first unplanned and the second one recommended by my doctor. Both times were a great experience for me although not what I had chosen. Recovery was just fine and I was up and about in a very short time. Babies had no stress and were born in perfect conditions. So a very positive experience here! Good luck

I've had two as well. One an emergency the other planned. I swear to god the second one was so relaxed the anaethetist was eating a sandwich!!! Even my DH who hates the sight of blood managed to sit through it.

Do not be honestly- easier said than done. I had a planned 5 week ago and I wouldn't hesitate to have another. On the day, went in a 7.30am and had all checks done, spoke to surgeon etc. Then was sent down to the ward where I would be staying to wait our turn as we were 3rd on the list. About 11am we got called down, by 11.30 I was on the table waiting for epidural to kick in (which for me took a while to get numb, this didnt hurt in the slightest by the way) they will spray you up and down with freezing water and you have to tell them if you can feel it etc. There was a bit of a tugging and pulling sensation but no pain whatsoever, at 11.58am he was born. DS was shown to us briefly before getting weighed and cleaned etc then DH held him whilst getting stitched up which took bout 20 minutes or so. Once all done, baby was placed on my chest while going to recovery.
By 2.30pm I was back on the ward. 9PM I had catheter taken out and was encouraged to have a shower. DH was sent home which was abit daunting but turned out not to bad - the midwives were so busy so during the night had to do alot myself such as picking him up to do feeds and changing nappy etc, which to be honest I think helped me a little to get up and move.
Following day we were sent home after being able to pass urine twice.

1 Week later I was shopping with DH, 3 weeks later driving again and now 5 weeks later you wouldn't even know i had a c section.
If I can advise anything it will be - take big pants that will go over the scar to hospital, take pain relief as soon as you can every 4 hours or so, and try to get up and move about as soon as you can.

Good luck!

It's understandable to be nervous, I was on verge of tears walking into operating theatre as was quite overwhelming following EMCS with my first but I needn't have worried. It was such a calm/painless experience. A little discomfort with spinal but that's all.

For me, the most painful part was shoulder tip pain during first night which I think can be quite common.

Dazedandconfused28 · 28/02/2020 01:35

I honestly loved my elective! As soon as they did the spinal I felt a weird sense of calm come over me. No pain whatsoever, even the 'pulling sensation' wasn't as extreme as I was lead to believe. Getting the cannula in my hand was probably the most uncomfortable bit, but even that was pretty straightforward.

The entire surgical team were lovely & asked how they could make it special with music etc. I wish i had been less nervous so I could enjoy the experience more.

I was off all painkillers within 5 days & having lunch out in Central London just a few days after.

I had a one after a failed induction for DS1, great experience and quick recovery. I was so scared too and cried walking to theatre. DS2 came 17 months later and I had no hesitation in asking for an elective

Cait73 · 28/02/2020 02:16

I had a wonderful c section, I was up and about a few hours later despite being told I'd need additional pain relief I didn't and hardly any pain afterwards, it really was an unexpected and happy breeze

I breast fed my newborn and went home able to do everything vaginal birth Mums can do (except drive)

I had one four weeks ago and it was a really good experience. Everyone was calm and lovely. My partner is terrified of blood but he managed to be there no problem and couldn't see anything. I got good painkillers at the start and was up after a few hours looking after my baby without help (2nd child, I'm sure they would have helped if I asked). Walking about normally after a week, driving after two.

Got paracetamol and diclofenac home with me and never felt I needed anything stronger than that.

I had one yesterday and it was very anxiety provoking beforehand but the risks are very low, you get a lot of reassurance and it is all kept very calm and controlled. They know what they’re doing and they don’t take any chances
