Booking appointment done and now I'm panicking!

I had my booking appointment yesterday and they did my height and weight and turns out I have a BMI of 31.4. before pregnancy I've never really taken an interest in my weight and I've been happy the way I am and the way I look.

Well I've now searched it and it says I'm obese and I've seen all of these side affects of having a high BMI and now I'm packing about it all.

Is there anything I can do now? Or do I just have to deal with the fact I'm obese and hope that nothing goes wrong? The midwife didn't really say anything that I can do about it. I just feel like I've been thrown through a loop and now I look at my body differently and think I'm fat all the time and it's not going to be good enough for my baby.

Any helpful suggestions are welcome! Just trying to figure out what I can do to make it a healthier experience.

I'm 5'9" a size 14 before pregnancy and had a BMI of around 32.5 at the booking appointment.
I'm 16 weeks now and have had a dating scan, consultant appointment (for different reasons, not BMI) and midwife appointment since then and not one mention has been made about my weight.
I'm just trying to be as healthy as I can and go for walks etc but not stressing about it

@sel2223 that's reassuring. I guess it all just needs to be taken note of when they first see you, but it's just something different to worry about when I've never really worried about my weight before.
That's good to hear that it's not been mentioned again, hopefully it will be the same for me and I can just continue to watch what I'm eating and to get a bit more active.
Thank you for your response!

I have the same BMI and it was only mentioned in my first appointment, though my midwife did say that there's a higher risk of pre-eclampsia with the higher BMI. Other than that, nothing has been mentioned.

I've got a BMI of 31, at my booking appointment my midwife said "oh it's only a little high, but we need to note it". I do have a GTT booked in April to check for gestational diabetes, which I'm not looking forward to. Other than that it's not affected my care so far (I'm 15 weeks).

Mine is just below 31, no one has ever said anything other than at my 20 week scan I was told I need to be tested for GD. Midwife said 'oh that's annoying as we'll have to refer you for GD testing even though your bmi is only slightly over'

I'm higher than that at 34 which scared me as by week at at booking in app I was holding a lot of water so it was higher than normal, but like the other ladies even at 34 it's never been mentioned since. I'm very curvy though and reckon a good 20 of that is boobs and bum 🤣

No mention of my weight was made after my booking in appointment until I was weighed the morning after ds was born, and then it was only to inform me of what I weighed.

At my booking in appointment my midwife told me I was at the top end of a healthy BMI but said nothing more.

I wouldn't be concerned about it if I were you, unless they had any worries, which they will mention.

My BMI was 31 at the point of booking in. No one have it a second glance, and as my other stats were good my pregnancy was deemed low risk (allowing me to give birth in a midwife led unit etc.).

Three years post partum, I've managed to squeeze my BMI down to 25.

All is not lost, enjoy your pregnancy, make healthy and nutritious eating decisions. You've got time to fix yourself up when the baby is born.
