This is my third child and I had SPD in varying shades the first two, but am in soooo much pain with this one, has anyone got any great tips (aside from putting feet up for remainder of 3 months which I wish I could get on prescription!)

Hmmm, it's a tough one as it varies with everyone. I think because this time around I know what is going on so prepared myself. I sleep on a sofa, so I don't tend to need to roll from side to side, I prop myself up and wedge a pillow under my knees, that way I don't wake up as much. I have also put signs up saying the 'The Pain Will Go Away' a bit stupid I know, but I just keep reading them. I also find having my little boy around me helps, because of the distraction. Are you seeing a pain clinic consultant? If not you should, my consultant was the only guy who took me seriously about this condition, and since seeing him I have found out there is severe damage to my pelvis, so my condition has been ongoing for 2.5 years now! I have had pain injections and they helped. I know you don't want to hear it, but rest does help alot.

I suffered greatly, mostly after my second was born. My pelvis had twisted out of position and had locked up. I saw a chiropractor, as they are skilled in treating muscular and sceletal problems, he had me walking again in no time. He said I should have come while I was still pregnant, as he treated many pregnant ladies.

asking your mw for a physiotherapist referal for a hip brace and helpful exercises could help.. as could swimming as its non weight bearing, though ensure you dont do any strokes that involve opening your legs wide.

i find some simple things helpful like sitting on a carrier bag in the car so i get in and out properly without opening legs...

have alos found that holding the head board and lifting my body into each position is far better than trying to do a 12 point turn!

I got a really useful tip from a physio at the hospital. If you want to roll over in bed don't go via your back. Hoist yourself onto your knees, and then, holding your tummy muscles as hard as you can, ease yourself over to the other side. It sounded too much like hard work for someone who's supposed to be asleep, but I got quite good at doing it and learned to do it without waking up too much.

I had acupunture which did the trick for me. had to go back every so often but asa i had one treatment I was much better for 1-2 weeks

Wear a big shiny nighty/pyjamas - which lets you slip into different positions when sleeping. (I found bed time movements a killer).

Big u shaped pillow/cushion inbetween legs when sleeping, as it evens out your pelvis and causes less pain.

Slip on shoes! Thought of crouching/bending a no-no.

Carrier bag on seat. Or you can get a swivel circle thing from the cripple section in the argos catalogue. (not very PC sorry!).

Sit down to put your pants and trousers/skirt on. Agony on one leg other wise.

Can't think of anything else. Hope the misery passes soon. It's the pits.

Don't do any hoovering, and order all your shopping online. Apparently shopping trolleys are terrible for making it worse.

Don't move furniture around either, as that really sets it off (as I found out yesterday - ouch!)

Thanks so much for all the tips, and I'll definintely try and in bed turning, though sounds a bit tricky!

I think most of the hints i would have used have been said.
If you have to lift make sure you try and keep legs together, and pull tummy muscles in.
If your struggling to get in and out of the bath, put a small step in the bath so you dont have so far to pull yourself.

If it hurts dont do it!

Step away from the hoover
