Consultant Led Pregnancy

Has anyone else been consultant led in pregnancy?

This is my third pregnancy and my BMI is high but the same as my second pregnancy (where I was midwife led) but this time they have put me down as consultant led - everything else is fine. Just wondering about anyone else’s experiences.

I’m consultant led due to BMI and a neuromuscular disease - I’m really happy with the care I’ve received.

BMI wise - I have to have growth scans as the measurement with tape isn’t reliable (excuse to see baby more!). I also had to see the aneathetist so she could meet me and check that I could have an epidural if I wanted one etc.

I had a consultant appointment at 16 weeks at the hospital, and after every growth scan (24/28/32/36) - I don’t know if you’d be seen so often if it’s only BMI that triggers consultant led as we spend a lot of time making plans for my induction etc. which I’m having because of my neuromuscular stuff and not BMI. I also see my community midwife as normal.

I do take 150mg of aspirin daily due to BMI and had a GTT at 26 weeks due to BMI.

I don’t know if it impacts birth choices as I knew I’d be on a delivery ward with intervention because of my disability. If you’ve had 2 straight forward deliveries and this pregnancy goes smoothly too I don’t see why they would restrict your choices much, worth asking.

Consultant led in my 2nd due to previous emergency section, being over 40 and mental health issues (had postpartum psychosis amongst other things with dc1).

I saw them 3 times at 24, 32 and 36 weeks.

I have had one with most of my pregnancies. The last one resulted in an emcs at 35 weeks. The consultant pushed me to surgery himself. Special treatment the staff mused. He banged that wheelchair off every corner and the lift door!! Felt very reassured me +baby were looked after apart from that day!
Ds was fine despite being prem.

Consultant led, due to instrumental delivery and retained placenta last time. I also have a BMI over 30.

Just saw the consultant once following the 20 week scan, and took an increased dose of folic acid (5mg) for the first 12 weeks. Everything else has been midwife led. Also had the GTT, but no issues there.

I've been told I will be consultant led due to previous spinal surgery that may mean epidural isn't possible. I have an appointment at 20 weeks but as I'm not there yet I wont know what happens after that.

Thanks everyone; it’s really bothered me and I’m not sure why :(

Im consultant led due to diabetes. I am a very nervous patient and to be honest I hate ever seeing doctors so I found the concept of being consultant led very daunting. However, now having done over half the pregnancy with monthly consultancy appointments, I can say, they are very nice, made me feel comfortable and were never judgemental about anything. Also the extra scans which I am now having every four weeks are really good at putting my mind at ease! Once you have had your first appointment Im sure you will feel better about it.

I was just over the BMI limit so supposedly referred to a consultant but haven't seen one (currently 22 weeks) having the glucose test on 12 th March

I’m consultant led due to using breast cancer in the last 3 years and also my mum has bipolar and have PND. If you are
Consultant led they will see
You for an Initial appointment then sometimes they let you go back to being midwife led if they feel they don’t need
To see you anymore x

Thank you. I’ve just checked my notes and the midwife who booked me in has got my height wrong and it has made my BMI seem higher....😫

I was because of hypothyroidism and previous mental health issues.
