What's the room where you have a c section like is it's scary daunting overwhelming because theirs so many people does it feel unnatural , or is it totally relaxed and more like a dentist

It's an operating theatre. Very clinical, several people in there,

I think there were 10 people in the room for mine..! Not including me, DH or the baby... so a bit busy!

The screen they put up across your chest actually shields your view of a lot of the room, so you're not seeing all the goings on and equipment etc. Anaesthetist was sat by my head chatting to us, and they had the radio on. It was pretty relaxed, not panicky at all.

It was clinical, not like the dimmed lights of the birth centre, but it wasn't daunting. Your comparison to a dentist is a good one - not really somewhere you'd go to chill out, but not really stressful either. (I'm speaking planned section. My emergency one was a little more frantic and noisy).

Cold !!
I’ve had 6 first was emcs that was a bit stressful as rushed in I already had an epidural or I would have been put to sleep
Others all elcs so much calmer and less people

schoolrefusalmum · 26/02/2020 21:25

Mine were all pretty relaxed and calm, there's quite a lot of people in there but they've always been really friendly and made me feel at ease.

I've had 5 sections between 2 different hospitals and there was quiet music on and people chatting away every time, even in the last 2 tricky ones!

LittleBrownBaby · 26/02/2020 22:09

Bright and clinical. With my emergency c sec there were maybe 10 people in there. With my planned I think around 5.

lorisparkle · 26/02/2020 22:14

I had 3 planned c sections and whilst you are in an operating theatre I found it all really friendly and quite relaxed (weird I know!). I asked for my own cd to be played and we asked for the curtain to be lowered so we could see the baby being born. I felt very well looked after and felt it was purposeful but calm and organised. I did feel a bit anxious before theatre when they are putting in the epidural but it was all fine,

titchy · 26/02/2020 22:22

They're not cold! YOU feel cold because the spinal makes your blood pressure drop which makes you feel cold.

maa1992 · 26/02/2020 22:23

Operating theatre, we didn't have the radio on during ours. Very clinical but not overly daunting

Echobelly · 26/02/2020 22:27

2 planned c-sections (well, the second I went into labour 12 hours ahead of my slot so it was officially an 'emergency' one) and both very relaxed. I think 'purposeful' is a good way of describing it as at @lorisparkle says - I mean, there can't be many nice operations than a planned c-section. There are a lot of people in there, but it was a very positive experience both times. I also played music, had a chat with anaesthiologist about composers etc!

SnugglySnerd · 26/02/2020 22:28

Very, very bright!
For my emcs I was wheeled in and didn't have much time to notice anything. For my planned section I was surprised that I had to walk into the operating theatre and climb onto the table myself (there was a step). It sounds ridiculous but I found this quite overwhelming a burst into tears! I'd have been fine if I had been expecting it. There were loads of people there but that's because I had twins so there were 3 midwives (1 for me and one for each baby) and I think an extra doctor too.
In both sections everyone was very calm, friendly, chatty and reassured us/explained what was happening throughout. I quite enjoyed the planned one!

Mydogatemypurse · 26/02/2020 22:30

Like a surgery room off grays anatomy because you are having surgery. Clinical. Bright. Clean. Busy. Loads of people. I've had 2.

Mydogatemypurse · 26/02/2020 22:33

Same as snuggly.
My first... emergency rushed in on trolley. Didnt give a shit. Off my face on drugs and exhaustion.
Second I walked in. They werent ready so I stood there like a plank whist they placed all the sterlikised equipment out on a table. I vomited. I shook. I felt overwhelmed but in the end it was quite quick and I was ok in the recovery room.

YesILikeItToo · 26/02/2020 22:35

I agree that operating theatres are bright. And, in my case, massive. Not at all like on TV, where the emergency room operations look like they’re happening in a cupboard the size of a falafel truck. More like the command deck of the Starship Enterprise.

Mine was chatty and lovely, everyone was cool, looked after me really well. I liked it, even the emergency one (last one was planned) compared to the natural birth. I remember the natural one and when I was in labour with my second baby who ended up with the emcs, the room was so dark because they’d turned the lights down to “relax” and I felt really small in it and like I was just sinking further and further in to the bed. I preferred bright, I liked to know people could properly see what was going on!

SinkGirl · 26/02/2020 22:39

I honestly have no idea how many people were in there. There were at least 6 people in the room while they were trying to get my spinal in. Lots more after that. Once you’re lying down and the screen goes up you’re really unaware of what’s going on. I had twins, nicu teams working on them both, anaesthetist, surgeon, nurses... loads of people. I don’t remember what a single one looked like. I vaguely remember that the room was green... that’s about it!

TreesSandSea · 26/02/2020 22:42

I had 16 surgical type people in there for my planned section (multiples)

And yes, it was huge and cold. Like an aircraft hangarGrin

MindyStClaire · 26/02/2020 22:53

I found it substantially less nerve-wracking than the dentist. That might say more about my feelings re the dentist though. Grin

Big room, with big windows so lots of light. Lots of people but all very friendly and professional. Mine was a very relaxed emergency. Having an elective in a few months and, while I know this will change when it's closer, I'm not nervous about it at all.
