Breastfeeding with slightly tuberous breasts

Hi, wondering if anyone can help.

By chance I went for a consultation a few years ago for a boob job and was informed by the surgeon that my boobs were very mildly tuberous.

I’d never even heard of this before, anyway I ended up not going ahead with the boob job after weighing up pros and cons.

I never gave it any thought but then when doing research on BF it says online people with tuberous breasts might struggle to breast feed so now I’m a bit worried as I at least wanted to try for the first month or so.

Does anyone know anything about this? He did say it was mild and I know there are extreme cases out there but I can’t help but worry! My boobs haven’t really grown a lot yet which I’ve read may be because theyre tuberous, they have a tiny bit but barely noticeable.

I had/have the same! No one has ever said it to me because I've never asked but they didn't grow that much in my first pregnancy.

From the beginning my son lost quite a bit of weight (more than they should after birth) and we had to supplement with formula from 4 days old. It was only when I saw a lactation consultant at 4 weeks post birth that she suggested I had Insufficient Glandular Tissue (IGT). I did everything to increase my supply but nothing worked. I could produce some milk but had to supplement with formula at every feed.

She set me up with a supplementary nursing system where you latch the baby onto your boob, they take whatever milk is there and when they slow down you pass a thin tube into their mouth with the other end of the tube in a bottle of formula. They then drink formula and breast milk at the same time. It's a bit of a faff but if you're set on breastfeeding then it's a good option.

You might not have these issues though! I'd advise seeing a lactation consultant ASAP after delivery and telling them about the shape of your boobs and how they didn't really grow. Good luck!
