Is 14 weeks too early to buy nursery furniture?

Hi

I'm 14 weeks today, I have a discount code that's due to expire in 5 days that will knock hundreds off our chosen baby furniture. Is it too early to buy it? I was thinking I could use it then ask for delivery to be after the 20 week scan so at least I could see if they can cancel it if worst comes to worst, although I'm not sure if that's an option. Could keep it in my garage in any case. I know some people are superstitious about buying things early but I'm not, I just dont know if it's a stupid decision ordering it so early. I do also like to be very prepared so I think it would satisfy my need to get organised Grin thanks x

I think it’s a bit daft, yes. Considering baby will be in your room for the first 6 months.
Saying that....it’s a bargain! Go for it.

@clangus00 we have plenty space, empty rooms that are currently unused so its not as if theyd get in the way. We could stick them in the garage or in the "soon to be" nursery and shut the door and never see them again for a year! Although when you put it like that you are totally right...it will be a year before they are needed!!

Oh get it. Buying things doesn't make bad things happen.

I think it is personal choice.
I don't know if they will hold the delivery until after the 20 week scan. You could always buy it and return it worst case. It would be worth checking their returns policy to see if they offer an extended returns period rather than the standard 30 days.
If not, you just need to decide that if, god forbid, you get bad news at the 20 week scan, you can cope with it being in your home and having to make the decision about what to do with it.
I started buying bits from around 17 weeks as I decided some deals were too good to miss.

It’s obviously a personal choice but what baby furniture are you planning on buying? A baby needs a cot but a wardrobe and chest of drawers can be bought later and don’t need to be a nursery range.

ShirleyPhallus · 26/02/2020 16:09

I am 37 weeks and only just got nursery furniture. I admit that may have been a little late though!

We chose to buy an adult wardrobe and chest of drawers though, I wouldn’t have bought nursery size stuff as they grow out of it so quickly

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 26/02/2020 16:12

Buy the furniture...

Pregnancy has NO safe point so what’s the point in waiting for a 20 week scan etc ?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 26/02/2020 16:16

Buying things doesn't make bad things happen, I totally agree. Buy it.

Babyg1995 · 26/02/2020 16:20

Buy it we bought ours at around 16 weeks and the pram we just standard wardrobe and drawers though as they grow out nursery furniture really quick

ashleigh3119 · 26/02/2020 16:24

@Parker231 it's a set of cot, drawers and wardrobe. I know it can be bought cheaper separately and a baby doesnt need the matching set etc but it's my first baby and just bought a new house and I'm really enjoying the idea of doing the nursery and have an idea of how I want it all to look - I'm sure I wont care less about a pretty nursery this time next year but I'm just enjoying the moment haha!

My god @ShirleyPhallus I'd be beside myself waiting until 37 weeks, I sometimes wish I could be laid back about things but it's just not me lol..

Thanks everyone... I'll buy the furniture!!

I'd order if if you're getting a bargain.
Think we are going to wait till after next scan but if I seen what we wanted now for cheap I would order it Smile

BabyMoonPie · 26/02/2020 16:32

Is it flat packed? My concern would be if you bought now and stored it and came to build in several months and there was a problem that the seller might be difficult about rectifying it / the product might not be sold anymore so replacement would be tricky

Nowayorhighway · 26/02/2020 16:38

If it’s flat pack then go for it but otherwise it’s probably a bit crazy to have the nursery set up this early on.
