So im booked in to have a growth scan tomorrow as baby is thought to be big. Ive been tested to GD and found not to have this.

Its my understanding that a big baby isnt much of a concern, so my question is whats the need in a growth scan? Do you get offered a csection if the babies over a certain weight?

@Letsallscreamatthesistene hi OP! ☺️
Had to have constant growth scans with my son as they said he was measuring way bigger than he should... it's just to keep an eye on baby usually absolutely nothing to worry about... I had my son naturally and he came out 8lbs 6oz so hardly this massive 10lb baby they made me think I was having... the scans arnt always right with regards to baby... but they need to just keep an eye that's all... xxx

@Letsallscreamatthesistene and with regards to baby being big and c section... no my sisters first son was almost 12lbs and she had him naturally even knowing he was measuring big ... because they prefer you too... might be different where you live and the care you have... xxx

Is the baby big or is your bump big? They like too know the difference - I went for one because I was measuring big. Baby turned out to be the smaller side of average but I had a lot of excess fluid. I was already booked in for an ELCS but it would have required proactive management if I was aiming for a vaginal birth

I had to have one with DC1 at 32 weeks because my bump was always measuring 4cm bigger than it should and they said he was ‘average size’ but he was born weighing 10lbs. They’re a bit pointless and hugely inaccurate.

Thank you all!

The bump was on the 50th centile, then measured on the 80th centile two weeks later. So I suppose its good to measure if its the baby thats big, or a lot of fluid.

I was having growth scans for the same reason. Each time they were saying the baby was getting bigger and bigger, and accelerating off the growth line. I was getting frustrated as there was fuss made about the size but wasn't told anything would change regarding the birth. I ended up having DD on his due date weighing 9lb4oz, normal birth. The birth itself was very straight forward, easier and quicker to recover than his 7lb11oz sister.
Most annoying thing was a consultant saying I " must have" GD despite 4 negative tests!!

This is what I think too. If theres going to be no change in outcome from the scan, then why do it in the 1st place....

I had a similar experience OP, but everything went OK and I managed the minimal intervention birth that I had planned (minus the episiotomy at the end - baby had a big head!).
My bump measured 4cm too big and was growing at a seemingly exponential rate. I was enrolled in a "big baby study" which would include being offered the chance to be randomized onto an intervention arm that required an early induction. The point of the study was to investigate the incidence of big babies getting their shoulders stuck (shoulder dystocia) and whether opting for early induction would reduce that in the intervention arm. I opted just to let them observe me because I didn't want to be induced. The birth centre offered me induction again around my due date after heading in with reduced movements (turned out all OK) and I turned them down because I wouldn't be able to birth on the midwife-led unit. Baby eventually arrived of his own accord 12 days overdue and he was 8lb 8oz. They measured him to be 8lb when I was 36 weeks, but almost 6 weeks later he wasn't enormous. I was a 10lb baby so I was terrified of him being big but he wasn't huge.
Really happy I waited for him to arrive of his own accord, he was "well grown" and ready to go!

Sorry I meant to say good luck and I hope baby is with you soon!
