I did 5. But I think in uk they boot you out as soon as you can crap. 🤷‍♀️

Disneymum1993 · 26/02/2020 01:52

I was in for 2 days after my 1st same with 2nd and with 3rd it was 24 hours all depend how you are after wards.my first was an emergency so
Took longer to recover other 2 was up and about within 5 hours, washed ,dressed etc xx

RainbowMum11 · 26/02/2020 02:01

They tried 24 hrs with my 2nd (you prob don't want to know about my first), but I refused to leave hospital while DD was in NNU.
But as long as I was able to walk & have a wee, they would've sent me home.

Tableclothing · 26/02/2020 02:04

I could have gone home after 1 night but stayed an extra day for more breastfeeding support.
People tend to recover better at home and are less likely to pick up a hospital-acquired infection if they go home sooner. It does mean support at home is very important though.

tisonlymeagain · 26/02/2020 02:16

I had to stay 24 hours because I lost a couple of pints of blood but I left as soon as I could so about 36 hours after

Purpleartichoke · 26/02/2020 02:16

I’m not in the U.K., I could have gone home the next day, but they wanted dd for 2 nights, so 2 nights it was. Standard was 3, but there was no chance I was doing that if not absolutely essential.

summerrain34 · 26/02/2020 02:24

I suppose they want to see how you get on with the baby aswell how to feed etc if your a first time mum ? That must come into it

2 nights after mine.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 26/02/2020 07:27

2 nights and it wasn't based on feeding baby as we were discharged and turned out the next day she hadn't been feeding properly and lost more weight than normal

It's when you can get up and go for a wee after the catheter is removed - I didn't 💩 until about 2 days after I came home. As soon as you are up and around they'll send you home but to be honest you're better off at home as you get no sleep on the maternity wards

Whatsbrownandsticky · 26/02/2020 07:33

I could have gone home after 2 or 3 days first time but DD was unwell. Second time I begged the staff until they let me go home, it was the (afternoon) day after early morning surgery.

1Pinkfluffyelephant · 26/02/2020 07:41

At our local hospital they do something called enhanced recovery, not sure if this is the same everywhere? All electives are carried out before lunch time and if all is well you can go home the following morning - so 24 hours later. Providing all is well with observations/feeding and you have to meet certain criteria to be able to be offered the enhanced recovery otherwise it’s around 3 days usually.

Bol87 · 26/02/2020 07:47

My hospital have the exact same @1Pinkfluffyelephant - the consultant had a long chat to me about the enhanced recovery programme & 24 hours for discharge so long as you are well, mobile, weeing normally & baby is feeding and not unwell. But my consultant said often women stay a couple nights for help with feeding or any post-op complications or just generally some support with baby. Grin

RoLaren · 26/02/2020 07:47

My midwife starting talking about the enhanced recovery scheme that the hospital promotes - being discharged 24 hours after the CS. Then she looked at my notes! Aged 43, 37 weeks gestation, total placenta previa, risk of accreta, possible hysterectomy, likely blood transfusions ... then she said 'We'll see how things go'! I was in two nights and three days, partly due to baby being in SCBU and they wanted to discharge us together.

Bol87 · 26/02/2020 07:48

*didnt mean to grin at the end! 🙈

MaryH90 · 26/02/2020 07:51

I had a CS last week. I stayed 24 hours which I was surprised by I thought they would insist upon at least 2 nights. I was given the option to stay but as PP said you get very little sleep on the wards and my OH couldn’t stay overnight so wanted to be at home to get more support from him

PeterPomegranate · 26/02/2020 07:53

Would have been 3 nights after c-section with my 9 yo but he lost too much weight and we stayed an extra night for that reason. Was 2 nights after my c-section with my 4 yo and I was a bit shocked as I assumed it would be 3 nights. I missed the adjustable hospital bed. Top tip - push up with your arms.

bingbangbing · 26/02/2020 07:55

Was in four nights. No idea why

mynameiscalypso · 26/02/2020 08:02

It also depends on what you want to a certain extent - my hospital do enhanced recovery as pp mention but it was also agreed with my consultant prior to my ELCS that the plan was to get me out as soon as possible. This meant they only would have kept me and baby in if they really really needed to. Without that, I'd have probably had to stay in for 48 hours (lost a lot of blood) but it was agreed that I could be monitored at home.

MuchTooTired · 26/02/2020 08:10

2 days after for me, but I’d had slightly prem twins so they needed to stay in for blood sugar monitoring. I was so ready to go home (I’d been in hospital for 3 days beforehand due to severe pe) and there was a woman who just DID NOT stop talking whenever she was awake so I’d have probably cried if I’d had to stay in any longer!

Babyg1995 · 26/02/2020 08:36

3 days first time that was 10 years ago though this time when I asked at my consultation they said if all is well it's 24 hours hopefully that's the case I know I'll be desparete to get home to my other 2 DC and partner and get the little one settled in .

Amanduh · 26/02/2020 08:41

At my hospital you can leave after 24 hrs if all is ok - and you want to. Obviously if there are issues it’s longer. My friend stayed an extra night as she had a toddler at home. Personally, if dc2 is a csec, I want off that postnatal ward asap!

LittleBrownBaby · 26/02/2020 20:24

@nachthexe - this is so true! They said I could go once I pooed - which after all the drugs they gave me was hard work!! 3 days I think for both of mine!

MamaMama20 · 26/02/2020 21:10

About 24 hours after c section. At my hospital as long as you can pass urine and have no complications then they will try and get you out soon as. I found being at home much better for recovery anyway

reginafelangee · 26/02/2020 21:14

First section I was in 5 days and second I was in 10 days.
