Has anybody ever has slapped cheek sydrome in pregnancy? This afternoon I all of sudden got really bright red cheeks, I felt hot and flushed. I called my doctor and he thinks I might have slapped cheek syndrome, iv to go to see him first thing in the morning and he says he might need to see a specialist about it? I'm 13+5 weeks

I haven't but know two people that had it during pregnancy. For one, it was very unfortunate, she lost the baby. The other baby was very sick but is a very healthy little girl now. I believe it can be variable in terms of effects to baby, requires growth scans and specialist care but it can be ok. I really don't want to upset you by posting, but don't want to beat about the bush either. I think some of the other symptoms are sore joints and feeling unwell, maybe your doctor is being very cautious. Wishing you all the best, hopefully it's a little benign heat rash or something

@sulkypatsy thank you for replying, I'm praying it's not the case and everything's going to be ok? How far on was your friend that lost the baby?

She was just over the 12 week mark, when she found out about the slapped cheek(parvo), I think it was about a week maybe two later when we found out she'd lost the baby. I do think that most women who get it still go on to have healthy babies

I haven't had it but was exposed to it. You should be offered extra scans to check for any abnormalities. Sadly, miscarriage is a complication (not sure if the exact figures). Just make sure your midwife is aware and she will guide you through it all. Hope you feel better soon

I had this but was just over 20 weeks. I still had to go into the midwife unit to be assessed but all was fine. Defo see your dr x

Thank you, iv got the doctor at 10am this morning. He did say if its confirmed that I would get extra care and scans. He also said about seeing a specialist also, just praying baby is going to be ok 🙏 iv been trying for 4 years with 3 recent miscarriages, I'm nearly 40 so sadly we feel like this is our last chance be because it is so mentally and physically draining as many will know. Weve never got this far so weve been so excited recently 🙏

Really hope the visit to the doctor went well for you

How did it go @WeeDinah? I hope all is well. Flowers

Do you feel unwell at all OP? Or have any other symptoms that suggest slapped cheek syndrome? As it's usually more severe when adults get it compared to children.

I had it a few years ago, I wasn't pregnant at the time but had very swollen and painful joints, sweats/fever and generally felt really unwell. I did also have a "lace like" rash over my body and red cheeks on and off but that's actually more unusual to get as a symptom as an adult apparently. If you don't have any other symptoms hopefully it's not slapped cheek at all.

Hope all went okay at the doctors- Flowers

The redness calmed down this morning and my temperature was ok, the doctor said he would still speak to a specialist but for now I was just to keep an eye on it and he said he will call me back to let me know what the specialist says. However the redness came back this afternoon but its since calmed down again, I was also sick tonight. I had a cold last week and I also had really bad pains in my hip last week that made me limp (for about a week). I was just putting everything down to the pregnancy, it's just so confusing! I feel really sick just now but u honestly dont know if its some sort of illness or if it the pregnancy!
