Hello
Since around 20 weeks I was told I needed extra growth scans as my sons belly was measuring small . I am 36 weeks now and at 35 weeks he weighted 4 pounds and eight ounces they reassured me that this was just the small side of normal and that he was growing along the line . I'm just concerned as every growth scan I have they have to check the belly again and I'm just thinking is their something wrong with his belly what does a small belly mean

I wouldn't worry to much (easier said than done I know) i had to have fortnightly scans as baby was measuring too small especially his belly which was a good few weeks behind.
At 36 + 5 he was estimating at 5lbs 10 - belly still measuring behind, and was delivered at 37 + 4 weighing 6lbs 6 and was absolutely perfect. Cant say I noticed he had a 'small belly' of any sort.

Thanks that's so reassuring it's horrible going for scans every two weeks isn't it . Did you deliver early because he was small or did you just naturally go into labour

I found the scans reassuring to be honest, I used to worry so much in between wondering if he was ok especially with having an anterior placenta and not feeling him a great deal. Our consultant did say he wasn't going to let us go any further than 37 weeks originally, but he was breach anyway so that's why he came when he did and was planned c section. However, because he was measuring small I had to have two steriod injections 48 hours apart 3 days before the section- this was to mature his lungs with him measuring small and being early

Wow that is exactly the same position I'm in I have an anterior placenta worth relentlessly about kicks . I'm 36 weeks now and He weighed 4 pound eight ounces at 35 weeks do you think they would say to me I can't go past 37 weeks . My baby is also breech how bizarre much appreciate the advice .

I'm 34+5 and baby weighs approx 4 pounds 8 oz. They have said his stomach is measuring small as well so want to rescan and measure me at 37 weeks and then decide if they induce me etc. I also have an anterior placenta. I'm hoping I dont have to be induced but will do what ever is safest for baby.

MamaMama20 · 24/02/2020 23:20

If its anything like my hospital then I imagine baby will be early on being breech alone which will be c section unless they have given you the option to try and turn baby for you?
If you do have a c section, do not worry about it. I worried bout the whole being on a table and cut open etc and it wasnt scary in the slightest, it was so relaxed, everyone was so friendly. It wouldn't faze me in the slightest if I ever needed another in the future.
Have you been having doppler scans as well as growth?

ellabella1998 · 24/02/2020 23:23

well I go and see my midwife tommrow and have another scan next week also I suppose they will tell me then . Can he not go past 37 weeks being breech ? I wanted him to be in for as long as possible . I don't think I will have him turnt round as I think a c section from what I have gathered seems the best thing for me my high anxiety couldn't take labour Although I would like to experience it . I just feel like theirs a lot less risks with c section even though they say their is more to me it sounds better

Not sure if I have had Doppler scans I'm having the baby at uch LONDON and I have been referred to the small baby clinics I think they do take Doppler scans all the flood flow to his head etc is always perfect it's only his tummy that measures small they also take my blood pressure and urine when I got to theses scans to

My 2nd always measured a week behind but was heavier than my 1st at birth who measured big throughout pregnancy 🤔

She was breech from 35-39 weeks, born by ELCS where she was found to be transverse at 39+5.

yatapina · 24/02/2020 23:37

Oh, she was 7lbs 2oz btw.

#1 was 6lbs 15oz at 40+6 but he was 7cm longer!

Avearage · 25/02/2020 00:15

I've had 7 1/2 who they told me would be nearer the 10lb mark!!
Then....
8.12
8.14
Now terrified this baby will be huge...as midwifes like ooo they only get bigger..... I mean its been 7 years.

MamaMama20 · 25/02/2020 03:04

Our consultant only said no later than 37 weeks because he was deeply engaged, so no chance of him moving and didnt want to risk me going into natural labour and causing him the distress with him measuring small. From what I have heard/read majority of the time, women with breech babies will still go pretty much full term just not past their due date cause baby can move last minute.
The doppler scan is where they check the blood flow from placenta, umbilical cord etc.
Ask your consultant what the plan is next time you see them. Are you having a c section regardless whether baby is breech or not ?

Bluesmum98 · 25/02/2020 03:40

I think I would like to yes , I'm petrified of giving birth naturally the pain freaks me out . I feel like I would be a lot calmer with a c section

jonesss · 25/02/2020 08:56

I had this and the breech baby (well one that was breech one day and head down the next then back and fore between the two positions for weeks) plus anterior placenta. At my hospital they did not want to do a section pre 39 weeks due to risk to babies lungs and potential nicu time, induction okay from 38 weeks. We were monitored daily until she arrived.
