I had and emergency c section 14 weeks ago. My labour wasnt progressing and I basically stopped dilating at 6cm. Baby's heart rate was dipping with contractions so the doctor advised a caesarian.
Surgeons went through a consent form which was a little scary (but obviously necessary).
My epidural wasn't completely working so I had to have a spinal block which was just an injection; honestly hardly felt it.
Did feel weird to be unable to move but anesthetist was lovely and kept talking to me the whole time.
Everything happened super quickly so you hardly have a chance to get scared/upset.
Baby taken out and crying! Got given to DH who brought him over to me.
I took longer to close up than normal as had some bleeding but after an hour was in a ward, skin to skin, breastfeeding and eating tea and toast.
Remember, c-sections are extremely common and the staff do multiple every single day.
I'm currently nursing my son as I type this and would do it a million times over to have him. Good luck!

I'd live my elective c section day over and over again! Amazing experience!

My planned c section was the best experience of my life. I was in recovery talking about having another baby. You’ll be absolutely fine and won’t even notice once that baby is on your chest.

Tell them you’re nervous. They’re great with it. My anaesthetist spent the time talking to my husband and I just listened. Very quickly I heard the suction as they got to the waters and the anaesthetist peeled over and said ‘baby has brown hair’ and up came a baby for my DH to tell me if baby was a boy / girl. They checked and wrapped and brought baby straight to us. It was incredible.

@ivfbabymomma1 @FeedMeChoc I am glad you have both said this, I thought I was a weirdo for loving it so much. I am very much done now after two babies, but wouldn’t mind an ELCS again!

@majorfaffington ha ha yeah I really enjoyed it too! And it was only a one night stay with good recovery! I wouldn't hesitate to have another!!

I had an emergency c section after a failed induction. It was honestly fine. I was able to get up and walk within 24 hours of having it and after two weeks felt completely fine. When my daughter was about a week old it did start to hurt as my husband was making me laugh so much, but other than that it was fine!! When I get pregnant again (hopefully) I am going to have an elective c section :)

My first child was born naturally and the second by planned premature section as I had vasa previa (which is basically a guaranteed stillbirth vaginally).
The section was not bad at all and the recovery wasn’t much different from a natural birth with a bad tear. The only difference is with the milk coming in and that the pain is afterwards when you have to take care of the baby, not before with the motivation of meeting the baby — so take all the pain relief and help on offer, there’s no virtue in struggling through it.
The baby is now nearly 18 months and I have to look really hard to find the scar.

I've had 2 emergency C-section and I wouldnt change it for the world. It meant my babies are safe and here with me. I found it really easy and straightforward, couldn't feel a thing except for some slight tugging. DH cut the cord and we got to see baby straightaway. So far it's looking like a 3rd C-section for me but honestly not fussed

Also had 2 c sections, 1 emergency and 1 planned. Emergency was under general anaesthetic so dont remember anything but recovered quickly. 2nd was amazing! For the pp who asked about feeling sick, at one stage when they were closing me up I came over very sickly feeling but i just told the dr, the anaesthetist gave me some meds and it passed. Think it was blood pressure related. Up and about as soon as epidural wore off. The first time you stand is the worst so just remember that it gets easier each time so try to get moving fairly quickly if you can. Good luck!

@ellabella1998 - you asked what was wrong with my DS - he had an infection which is really very rare following a c-section, no-one quite understood how it had happened! It was unlikely to be connected to having a c-section. He had a couple of weeks in NICU on antibiotics but he recovered 100%.
