Cordial in the fridge?

Ok, so this is a bit random, but I drink a cordial everyday - just a tiny drop in water so that it's not too sweet, and I just noticed that the instructions said to refrigerate once opened and use within one month. I was ashamed that i never put my cordial in the fridge, until i texted my mum and sisters and they said they never do either, and my bestie doesn't. just because i'm preg i wondered if this was a really stupid move...other than that pregnancy going really well - just had 16 week scan and bubs is measuring perfectly, moving around, and heartbeat is strong. Thanks for reading!

I've never put it in the fridge and I drank it throughout my whole pregnancy 😊

FeelingBeautiful · 24/02/2020 16:12

Oh...I wish I could give you a prize for being the first to @maa1992! thanks so much : )

Just checked a bottle of squash we've got, it says to use within 4 weeks and keep in a cool dry place. Can't imagine the ingredients are much different in yours to warrant worrying over. They're either packed with sugar/ sweeteners so will preserve well.

..first to respond : )

The one I got last time is a more natural one (It thinK!) it's got fructose, glucose syrup, citric acid, water and elderflowers. doesn't sound too natural now that i list all the ingredients...oh, look. I'm doing my best with this pregnancy. fingers crossed is the best anyone can do I suppose

You're absolutely fine

FireflyGirl · 24/02/2020 16:39

Fructose is the sugar that naturally occurs in fruit.

Glucose is the sugar naturally found in carbs/plants during photosynthesis.

Citric acid naturally occurs in lemons/lines/citrus fruits.

I drank cordial all the way through my last pregnancy, as that's all I drink. I have never in my life kept it in the fridge, or heard of anyone else getting ill from not keeping it in the fridge. You should be fine, OP.

Yeah, I think I am. Just emptied out a bit from the end of the bottle and there's no mould or anything in there. I love being pregnant and I can't wait until it's over!

If mould was going to be the end of us, there'd be no one around.

PS - that was meant to be reassuring, not sarcastic/condescending. I read it back and realised it might come across badly Blush

FeelingBeautiful · 24/02/2020 16:50

Not sarcastic at all! Thank you for clarification! I'm totally fine...I had a rough time when we first got pregnant cos I was a bit heavy and thought I was doing everything wrong. Now I just think...I'm doing my best, I'm feeling good, no one means to intentionally fuck up when they're preg! Thanks again for the replies ladies!

Gosh I never knew to keep it in the fridge. Only in the last year or so I discovered that ketchup should be in the fridge. I think it's use the manufacturer being over cautious.

FeelingBeautiful · 24/02/2020 21:10

@jonesss I think you're right, it's just the manufacturer - spoke to a couple of friends today and none of them of their families keep it in the fridge. Didn't keep ketchup in the fridge either until recently!

I think pregnant women, especially first timers like me, can feel like they are in a straight jacket, and then you become super conscious about everything. My mum had none of that anxiety, just got on with things. i'm not saying not to be careful, it seems like the anxiety it's all creating gets out of all proportions.

Have forgotten about the cordial, but all that said I'll pop it in the fridge just in case! Smile

We dont keep ours in the fridge.
But we did have a bottle go mouldy. It was VERY obvious - great big grey spots floating in the top.
