Is baby trying to claw his way out?! Help

This is my second pregnancy, i'm 36 weeks pregnant. Long story short, I was literally on the floor in pain from these SHARP niggling sensations down there, almost like the baby is trying to claw his way out! Is this normal?
It sure didn't feel normal and I've had similar pains but I've never been on the floor with them.
I never experienced anything like this during my first pregnancy either. They aren't contractions. I believe it could be the baby moving around, he's head down but oh my goodness what a feeling!! Shock
Can anyone shed some light? Should I be worried?

This late in the pregnancy you should go in with any change in fetal movement. I would go in and say I am getting sharp pains that are not contractions as I have been pregnant before but these are extremely painful and the movements are abnormal for this baby.
Don’t be fobbed off with ‘the baby has run out of room.’ That’s a myth.

@HuloBeraal it's not that the baby isn't moving, he's twirling around in there but along with it is these sharp pains that last for a few seconds on and off, mainly when i'm standing

No what I mean is that if the baby is moving significantly MORE than normal and it is very distressing for you then do call your midwife. Although a few sharp pains for a few seconds a day wouldn’t concern me. What I meant was that people think of change in a baby’s movement as only that of movement slowing down but any ‘change’ needs to be checked out, IYKWIM.

I think it's when the baby's head is pushing on a nerve slightly. I get them, some days more than others! My midwife referred to them as 'fanny daggers' I was like yep! Definitely feels like that!! Really common apparently x

Sounds like 'lightening crotch', absolute bloody killer!

Bol87 · 24/02/2020 08:15

Lightning crotch - it’s so painful! Basically babies head rubbing & head butting that general area!

I’ve got a breech baby this time and I get river dance on my cervix from her feet. When she kicks, it literally stops me in my tracks and makes my eyes water!

Unless it’s regular pain or prolonged severe pain or you notice any change in movement, I wouldn’t worry too much.. just part of the very uncomfortable final month!

I had this with my second pregnancy. So weird and uncomfortable and yes it felt like the baby was trying to claw its way out. Fanny daggers is a perfect description!

jonesss · 24/02/2020 09:27

Just came on to say fanny daggers

@js30 @T0rt0ise @Bol87 @AvocadoAdvocate @jonesss thank you all a bunch! I came to the conclusion (with a bit of googlingBlush) that what I was experiencing was lightening crotch!
I've never felt something so painful, it does only last a few seconds and happens randomly, not a constant pain and mainly when the baby is wriggling down there, not accompanied with any other symptoms either
Honestly it feels worse than labour pains, when I had my 1st midwifes examining me was WAY worse than giving birth. Feels so similar to that pain lol

@bol87 feet down there must be so painful omg, baby's head feels like feet or hands so I can't imagine Sad feel sorry for you!
