Telling my personal trainer

Hello

I have just found out I'm pregnant - only 4 and a bit weeks!

I am due to train with my trainer on Monday and am wondering when people told their PT, gym or instructors that they were pregnant?

I know it's very early days but I am worried as we both push myself hard in training sessions normally!

Slightly different but I told my physio at the next appointment I had after I found out (I was 7weeks exactly by that point) and he did have to modify a few things so think it’s worth telling if you feel comfortable doing so. Or could you cancel a few sessions until you’re a bit further on and happy to mention it? Xx

After DH, my spinning instructor was the first person I told! Best to tell them, first so they can keep an eye on you while you're working out, and second so they can adjust your routine. A good PT will have been trained in what to do with pregnant women.

I didn’t have a PT when pregnant but I do now. I’d tell him straight away. Your joints are more vulnerable to injury and you will want to avoid some types of heavy lifting. They can work out a suitable plan for you.
Congratulations!

I would tell my PT as they need to adjust some of the exercises to you being pregnant, and also keep in mind in case you will feel unwell at your sessions.

Definitely. They need to know any factors affecting your health so they can make sure their programme is right for you.

I told my spin teacher and Pilates teacher as soon as I knew.

I think its important for abdominal exercises e.g. crunches and also in case you feel faint , nauseous or have low blood sugar.
I remember my Yoga teacher got really made at me once when I only told her at the end of the class! (In my defence she arrived late and started the class without giving me an opportunity ;) )

Thank you ladies - I'll let him know tomorrow!

Glad you are planning to tell them. It’s absolutely vital, not least because it is likely to be an insurance issue for them. I’m afraid you need to consider the possibility that they might not be prepared to train you, either in the first trimester or at all during your pregnancy.

ablisha · 23/02/2020 12:23

@EstebanTheMagnificent yeah I have thought that. I've been training with this guy for over a year now and completely trust him so if he feels it's not right, then I am 100% with him on that. At this point, I just want to ensure this pregnancy sticks and I feel so lucky to be pregnant in the first place

Tell them straight away. You can still work out but you'll need to tweak a few things.
