I'm getting myself Into a panick now my BMI was 25 at booking I've battled with ED for most of my life going between months of restricting then binging to get to a low weight .I was at a normal healthy weight when I fell pregnant but been binging on carbs something I would avoid before between that and spd I've gained 5 1/2 stone please no nasty comments I'm ashamed as it is Blushthis has put me in the very obese range I have my consultation appointment on Wednesday as I'm getting an ecs I know they will weigh me and I'm terrified of what they will say to me I'm also terrified they won't be able to give me the local anaesthetic and I'll need a general my biggest fear is being put to sleep has anyone who's been obese had troubles with getting a local anaesthetic ?

Put on 5 stone in my first pregnancy and had a bmi of 28 to start with, wasn’t mentioned and I had a section absolutely no concern about getting anesthetic etc. They weighed me before the section but were very nice and told me not to look as didn’t mattter anyway xxx you will be fine so please go gentle on yourself x

I was massive at the end of my pregnancy (c. 117kg 😳), I had IVF and then gained five stone. I had an elective section and spinal block and no issues at all. Please don’t worry x

I put on over 4.5 stone in pregnancy and was in the normal weight range but by no means super skinny - I’m only 5ft 4 so was huge! Actually had a general (but for a different reason) but they did prep for a local and no one mentioned by BMI once.

That's one reason why I don't weight myself during pregnancy.

During my first pregnancy I was weighed at every OB appointment and that was stressful especially as I gained a lot in the last trimester. Just to say I lost almost all of that after I came out of hospital.

My advice is to stop using the scale, unless your midwife needs to know your actual weight I would avoid.

Thanks everyone I've spent alot of time in tears over this I don't recognize myself in the mirror anymore. I feel more at ease now knowing I'm not the only one who has gained a huge amount .

Please please please be kinder to yourself!

Pregnancy weight gain is not like ‘normal’ weight gain. You are caring for your baby and doing something incredibly physically demanding - if you want carbs to help you out, have some carbs!

Remember, this weight will come off. A lot of it is the baby and his or her ‘cargo’ like placenta, extra blood, fluid, etc.

And the rest?

You will need that for recovery! And breastfeeding if you choose to. Your body is smart - it knows that it needs to hold on to weight now to help you out later, but not forever.

I have a similar ED history to what you have described and have found body image very hard in pregnancy. Throw away the scales. It really helped me when I did (well, my DH did for me). After years of daily weigh ins, I thought I would struggle without it but it actually freed me from an unhealthy habit and allowed me not to care.

You’re doing something incredible - you’re building a life! A real human being! Your weight is not important, please be proud of the amazing job you are doing :)

Your consultant will guide you on the best option for your birth. I’m afraid I don’t know much about weight and meds, but I am sure you will be fine and will be able to work out a birth plan with your hospital that is safe for you and baby x

I put on about 5 stone with my 1st, went from 8.5 stone to 13.5, I did manage to get it all off again. Put less on with the following 2 DCs but I think that’s only because I was heavier to start with.
Now I really wish I could get a stone or so off but I love eating too much

I wouldn't worry, I doubt theyll say anything at all. I have a history with anorexia which I thought was long gone but as soon as I saw the scales going up I freaked. I asked hubby to hide the scales and he did, and I feel much better turning a blind eye to it all :)

Babyg1995 · 23/02/2020 11:04

My partner hid the scales from me think he's taken them in his car .
Usually if I get a few pounds I'll restrict but obviously wouldn't dream of that while carrying my baby I'm already thinking of extream diets for when after baby's born but I'm really trying to ignore that and just enjoy my baby and hope i lose it naturally .
