Hi
I'm looking for stories of anyones experience who had a DVT in pregnancy and went on to be pregnant again.
Also stories on approach to labour when on anticoagulant
Thanks

I had a DVT at 36 weeks during my first pregnancy. I couldn't really walk due to it being very large and in my groin so was practically bed bound. In the end I was induced for high blood pressure but due to failure to progress and foetal distress I ended up having an EMCS. I was on anticoagulant injections from when I was first diagnosed with the DVT until 3 months after having DS.

Am pregnant with DC2 now and again on daily anticoagulant injections. Will be having an ELCS this time but that's just personal choice really not anything to do with the previous DVT. From what I remember from last time you just have to stop your injections as soon as you go into labour, or 24 hours before an indication/CS.

Thanks so much for your message. I don't understand why you have to go on injections the next time around and it's very difficult to get information as the midwives I see haven't dealt with DVT before. The doctors also say the always induce, which I can't understand. Have you been able to read any useful information?

Hi OP

I had a DVT during my first pregnancy and went on to have anticoagulants for my subsequent pregnancies.

You can't have an epidural for 24 hours after your last injection, so they like to take you off the injections and induce you just in case you needed an epidural/Csection.

I had a DVT when I was 35 weeks pregnant, I was not allowed an epidural and was not induced. With my next pregnancy I was on anticoagualants again I was not induced and I am still supposed to take them when I fly long haul.

You have to have them in subsequent pregnancies to prevent getting another DVT. You're more prone to DVT during pregnancy anyway so having had one before will increase that risk.

Never heard anything about always inducing. I was only going to be induced as I was overdue initially but then got high blood pressure so was induced earlier than planned.

Thanks all, I didn't want an epidural but no one told me it was an option to not be induced ...

Did they have a certain time period that they wanted the labour to happen in? I.e. is there a time limit that you can be off anticoagulant?
