I’ve had awful awful nausea and sickness since 5 weeks (I’m 15 weeks now) which resulted in me being hospitalised and on a drip on Monday.

I have since been released and given anti sickness tablets but the nausea is still so awful that I can barely eat anything.

I’ve got absolutely 0 appetite and the thought of eating makes me want to throw up, the tiniest smells make me heave and I’m scared to talk in case I be sick. I want to get a sick note from my doctors for work as I’ve been off for 3 days now but there’s not a chance I can drive there, and I’m scared to open my mouth to speak over the phone.

Is there a way my partner could call for me and I try speak to them over the phone if they need to hear from me directly?

I totally broke down last night as this has been so horrifically awful I just don’t know how much longer I can cope :(

Oh bless you. Feeling so unwell is brutal especially when you are also pregnant and worrying about not eating enough.

Get your partner to call and explain that you’re so nauseous you’re struggling to speak - ask for a phone call back, your partner can answer if they’re at home and explain then put you on the phone as needed.

Which drug have they put you on? There may be others you can try, they may be able to arrange injections instead.

I had crippling nausea when i was pregnant which meant I couldn’t eat but I was prescribed meds which did help a lot, and by about 18 weeks I managed to mostly stop the meds as things improved. I hope the same is true for you. Hang in there Flowers

Obviously you need to at least speak to a gp. This is not ok for you.
See if your partner can speak to the gp about this on your behalf to get the ball rolling. You need medical intervention.
I was hospitalised because I became so dehydrated very early on in my pregnancy and thought "I could manage ".
Please do this.

@SinkGirl I think metoclopramide is what they’ve given me, it doesn’t seem to be doing a whole lot though :( I’m praying it eases up soon i don’t know how much longer I can last like this. Thank you for your advice x going to see if the GP will speak to my partner fingers crossed x

Hi OP, I’m sorry you’re suffering. I’m 17 weeks and have just come out the other side of hyperemesis so you have my deepest sympathies!

By the end I was on 3 different anti sickness tablets all at once and I still had to be admitted to hospital for rehydration twice. It’s miserable, but you’ve got to keep letting your GP know that you’re suffering so they can help. Don’t feel like a nuisance, it’s not normal to be SO miserably unwell!

In the meantime, I found sucking on ice cubes and ice lollies helpful - got some fluids without triggering vomiting.

I’d be asking about ondansetron. It’s increasingly used for HG. It was developed for use in cancer patients (my mum took it for that, that’s how I knew about it) but it’s a lot more expensive than other options so they avoid prescribing it.

I had best success with promethazine, so I think it’s very individual.

If it’s not working you need something else. It’s a viscous circle otherwise.

SinkGirl · 20/02/2020 10:59

Haha - vicious, not viscous!

Hang in there, I had it with all 3 of mine and felt like I wanted to die. I half hoped I would die at times, as at least I'd have a release. Awful time.

I hit the magical '12 weeks' (when all the textbooks tell you your sickness will disappear), and felt worse than ever.

From about 15 weeks I found it got ever so slightly better every day. Until at 20 weeks I honestly felt almost normal. Still a bit queasy here and there, but the transformation was dramatic.

Do what you can to get through the next month. 💐

You poor thing . I had it throughout my whole second pregnancy. It was a nightmare.
I was put on cariban which reduced the vomiting to 5 times a day instead of 20Hmm
I had to go to work but only worked part time . I carried plastic bags with me and use to pull over in the car to vomit.
It’s awful, I hope it eases a bit for you
