Fertility after contraceptive implant

Hi everyone.
I had been using the contraceptive implant method since I had my first child 15 years ago. I had it removed last summer and me and my husband have been ttc ever since. I have been using home ovulation tests and keeping track of my periods. They are all over the place. Very irregular. Also I have been in loads of pain just before and during my period - especially when going to the toilet when it is quite severe pain. And my periods are very heavy. I have been to my doctor for a few tests and smear to make sure there is nothing to worry about - all came back clear. My husband also has done a sperm count test. Which all came back ok. When I went for my smear the practice nurse told me that the progestogen hormone could still be in my system for up to a year after removal of the implant and this could be causing the problems I am having with my periods. But since then I got conflicting information from 2 doctors who said this was not the case and once the implant is removed so is the hormone. I was hoping what the nurse had said was right as it would explain the problems I had been having.

I did not have a period while on the implant at all over the 15 years. And had one taken out and one put straight back in with no break.

So I guess my questions are has anyone else had fertility issues after using the implant?? What is causing my painful and irregular periods and has anyone else had similar issues after having the implant removed??

Any information greatly appreciated.
Tia.
Xx

Also could my irregular periods be a sign of infertility.

Your usual fertility should return immediately after removing the implant (I think the nurse was confusing it with the depot injection). The implant doesn't affect your fertility.

It's tricky though because you had the implant for so long which was masking the periods you should have been having, and also you've no idea what has happened to your fertility in the 15 years since you last conceived as you've not been trying to conceive during that time.

Your painful and irregular periods could be any number of things which the GP or gynaecologist can investigate further. Endometriosis, PCOS, or peri menopause are possibilities.

My doctor has told me my periods are nothing to worry about and the pain I am having is normal and some women just suffer more than others. They haven't offered to look further into it . I have been on a few occasions since my Implant was removed and almost feel like I am wasting their time. My feelings are though that it isn't "normal".
